Something I've found myself wondering, each of the last couple of times I've watched this movie, is why, after Mildred destroys the savings bonds that Philip's uncle sent him to fund his medical school education, weren't they able to be reissued, as they'd never been cashed out. Wouldn't that have been possible?

What a thoroughly nasty piece of work Mildred was, lighting those bonds afire.
