Overview

Siamo nel 1623, in nord Europa. Marthe, accusata di stregoneria e braccata dalla folla, si rifugia nella canonica del villaggio presso Anna, giovane moglie del pastore, sposata in seconde nozze. Marthe viene comunque catturata, torturata e arsa viva dopo il processo presieduto da Absalon, marito di Anna. In canonica arriva ora Martin, figlio di primo letto di Absalon, coetaneo di Anna. Tra i due giovani nasce l'amore. Quando Absalon, all'improvviso, muore, sua madre Merethe accusa Anna di stregoneria...
