Oddly enough I'm not talking about some monster going on a rampage and wreaking havoc all around. No I'm talking about the tired old trope where some kid or chick manages to have a deep and complex relationship with said monster while everyone else is just baffled . I wrote the same thing on the previous Godzilla movie message board when it came out and here they are again with the same old garbage. I mean jesus christ look at this new trailer for this movie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odM92ap8_c0
"And this child.....she's the only he (Kong) will communicate with"
And I thought the previous Godzilla movie was crap. Looks like this one is vying extremely hard for the title of crappiest movie of 2021 and is doing it's best to competently set the bar in monster movies even lower.

King of the Monsters was great, I don't know what you're on about. As far as this new film, it's probably because in all of the Kong films it was his relationship with a woman or girl that lured him off the island. It's called honoring the films that came before. If you're going to complain about something, at least consider context before doing so.

Its a GIANT Dinosaur vs a GIANT Monkey...you're seeking a groundbreaking, Oscar-worthy plot device? Really? Get over yourself!

In fairness, the original Gojira is a very powerful film. The sequels... not so much. None of the American Gojira films have really mimicked that first one successfully though. 2014 kind of tried, but managed to be little more than a Hisei-era film.

Well, to each their own, but I would say King of the Monsters was one of the worst movies of 2019 or 2020 what with the atrocious acting, asinine story and characters etc. Also having some silly humano-cimian/humano-lizardian relationship in each of these movies is honoring the films the films that came before kind of like all of those lazy a$$ movies with an a.i. or some kind of a robot resorting to the tired old formula of having the a.i./robot turn out evil at some point of the story as some kind of twist or something. It's a silly and tired old trope that has been rehashed to the point of ad nauseam.

I agree. king of the Monsters had a terrible story. Just utter rubbish. The monster scenes were fun but everything else was bad. Of course, the vast majority of films in the “big monster” genre are just like this, so in that regard, KOTM was par for the course.
Once in a blue moon, a big monster film may turn out great. I thought Shin Godzilla was pretty good and a more mature effort.

The problem with this argument is that most of those films are independent stories, not connected to any particular franchise. These films are very clearly connected to a well established franchise. Furthermore, each generation has done its own version of key storylines. The showa era had their "monster wars" storyline. So did the Hisei era, and even the '98 animated series. That is exactly what the new films are doing too, and while I had initially been hoping for a reboot that would do more to honor the original 1954 film, Gojira 2014 seriously dropped that ball, and was in general not very good, in my own opinion. King of the Monsters did a lot more to honor the franchise and the films that came before, and did so in a rather creative way. This new film looks a lot like it will be doing the same, though I am still a bit apprehensive about how well they will do.

Out of these newer films since 2005 this is probably the 3rd best one but that's not saying much. 2005 King Kong and 2017 Kong Skull Island were the only particularly good movies to me. I remember the 2005 film had an interesting visual style and still looks great in 4k today. Kong Skull Island was just a fun ride start to finish. I would put this film right before King of the Monsters. I liked 2014 Godzilla when I saw it in the imax but after repeat viewings on TV I like it the least now. Godzilla vs Kong and King of the Monsters are a little bit too chaotic for me with all the non stop CGI action but they were entertaining as one time watches I'll likely never revisit.

I'm only going to say this once - monkeys have tails; Kong is of the ape family.
