The "Idiot Plot"

A term coined by the late British sci-fi author James Blish, best known in the U.S. for his adaptions of Star Trek: The Original Series. The plot is only moved forward by virtue of the fact that everyone involved is an idiot. Fits this lame Alien rip-off quite well.
