Discuss Fast X

Has anybody here seen this yet? I personally have only seen one Fast movie, Tokyo Drift & that was because of Sung Kang. But I might see this one just for Momoa. There have been many good reviews (bad ones too but they are outnumbered by the good) for his wacko performance.

I enjoyed the film a lot, but found some aspects annoying (spoilers ahead):

1) For a moment I thought, after Dom declared how he was anxious to kill Cipher, that the monster was finally gonna pay for her evil deeds, mainly Elena's death. Pity Letty didn't shoot her after Cipher told them everything. I liked it how Letty beat the **** out of her, but it was still disappointing that she remained alive.

2) Gisele suddenly turns to be alive. C'mon, after she saved Han's life and got killed (allegedly) in the sixth film, didn't the group even bother to look for her corpse?! Maybe the writers intend to revive Elena and Jakob as well?

3) How long do the writers plan to keep Brian's character alive, nearly ten years after Paul Walker (RIP) died?! In one of the former films Mia said he stayed behind to babysit their children (yes, very convincing). Couldn't the writers, say, use Dante's vendetta to finally kill off Brian's character in this film, finally (and long overdue) let him RIP?

4) How lame it was to give Shaw so little screen time, and to Hobbs - even less. They were not necessary for the plot. IMO it was great to involve them actively in the plot, but the way it was done... it was better not to include them at all.

5) A very annoying cliffhanger: we see the airplane, carrying four of the group, explodes - but only after it disappears from view. In view of Gisele's mysterious resurrection, it is quite likely they survived... or not? Wait for the next film.

6) The main villain got away with his crimes. I guess he'll appear in the next film... maybe the two next films...

7) In general, I think the series exhausted itself.

I think we can safely say that is absolutely certain that they survived...

I love FnF but this one wasn't very good.

Momoa was fun though

It was what I expect from an FnF movie (>5 ): Big, dumb, physics-defying fun. You may be disappointed by Jason remaining top-bound, though.

Why post 5 though? Brian turbo boosts and jumps his car right over the top of another to overtake it in 2 Fast 2 Furious. Later in the same film he then somehow flies his car over a stretch of water and accurately lands it on top of a moving yacht!

In terms of dumb, physics defying stuff these are right up there.

I think that with 5 they realised that there was an audience beyond beyond people who wanted to see cars being driven fast and furious and changed the marketing. It worked, as it was the first one my wife and I bothered with, and we have now seen them all. I think that this scene from 4 was where they turned the corner into ridiculousness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fexia8eYF-0

It's interesting that the stunt - jumping on the truck - was not done by stuntmen, but by Michelle herself. Ridiculous, of course, for her risking her life for this franchise.

Funny because I hadn't watched any of them when they first came out. Hobbs & Shaw was my first "fast" experience and then some people told me I should start with 4 and others said start with 5.

In the end I landed up watching them in reverse order but do remember thinking 4 was slightly toned down in comparison. However, yeah, Dom timing that drive under the flipping truck is up there with later spectacles I guess.

But still think the ones I referenced from 2 (which is the one I saw for the first time most recently - after X) are as outrageous as anything that followed.
