The original Star Wars movies are strewn with moments of characters expressing emotions over the fate of droids. This is nothing new. Lando is just expressing them the way Lando does.

I agree with this last thought, and almost included it in my previous reply, but didn't want to muddy the waters. You are correct in that we have had characters expressing loss and friendship vibes with previous droids throughout the series. And as fans we have anthropomorphized them as characters (or 'persons') and even endowed them with (or assumed they had some) sentience. That is nothing new...what is new is romance, or perhaps unrequited love. I mean, we are discussing it. Is it not new? And oddly, this happens earlier in the time line than some of the later--more familial/benevolent--sentimentality.

I never said TR was "great" I said I enjoyed it a lot because it was fun and had good comedy and most important of all likeable characters. It also had a great color palette so you're just wrong there. Hela was much more interesting and entertaining villain than any of the villains in the Disney Star Wars movies.

why does disney ultimately pay the price for the disastrous last jedi? if it was really disney, and disney was bad, wouldnt that make Marvel bad too? i mean they are making "quality" Marvel movies after all. shouldnt you be praising disney because of you know, Marvel?

Well really it's Kathleen Kennedy's fault, but Disney just renewed her contract for 3 more years even though she's responsible for the first Star Wars movie to bomb so Disney shares some responsibility. Kevin Feige is the reason why the MCU is such a juggernaut so Disney at least made the right choice to let him headline it.

I also give Marvel a lot of credit for listening to fans who were unhappy with Iron Man 2 and 3 and Thor 2 and changed future films to better serve fans, whereas Lucasfilm shames its fans and calls them racist/sexist/bots/man-babies if you don't like their movies.

Well I am smart because I am using facts to back up my argument and not just my feelings and I use apostrophes, try it some time. Why do you think Solo bombed? Because fans were still angry over Last Jedi. TLJ audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is currently 45%. There are countless articles and Youtube videos of people talking about how much they hated it. There are boycotts of future movies.

Look, if you liked TLJ and Soylo then that's great because Star Wars is your franchise now, I wipe my hands of it. Lucasfilm has made it clear they no longer want my money and I'm fine with that. Marvel has decided they do want my money so as long as they keep putting out entertaining movies I will buy their movie tickets and merch. That's how the free market works.

There is no romance unless you choose to read that into it. And if you ignore Lando reacting with revulsion at L3 talking about "that thing" in the way that she does.

As far is it being something to read into it, which I don't, I'm open to it. Why not? Fantasy, especially quasi science fiction fantasy, is the place for what ifs.

I went back and rewatched it (again, molehill --> mountain at this point), and there are even more implications as I reviewed it. Specifically with the conversation L3-37 and what's-her-name have as they fly through the thing-a-ma-bobber galaxy-nebula-carbon-collision thingy. Anyway, this led me to do a quick query, and you don't have to take my word for it, you can read all about it here and here. So...I guess my instincts were more right that I had thought. (Oh yeah, did I mention that I skipped this in theaters which is why I'm so late to the party? Yeah, that's a thing too.)

I am aware of that scene. So you choose take what is said by L3, a droid that is characterised as being comically deluded and self important, as the objective truth? You've noticed a running** joke**. Well done. You can choose to infer that Lando and L3 are up a tree K-I-S...etc.

It's left up to the viewer and their imagination to choose whether it goes further than that. But the fact that Lando shudders at L3's suggestions of intimacy and explains how irritated and inconvenienced he is by just about every thing about L3 except her navigational capabilities. When she expires he mourns the loss of an ally and an ultimately loyal comrade and feels great loss since she helped him build his fortune and reputation by helping him evade capture for so many years. I take that a bit more seriously than some entertaining banter.

News is a mixed bag. Slowing down isn't a bad thing at all for this franchise, but slowing one project just to focus on another may be. Meh.
