So a droid that comedically demands better treatment from the living, and the fact that Lando tolerates her, fills you with loathing. And you're angry at L3 for not completing her mission, although she ultimately does. And she in fact puts events in motion which allow Chewbacca to help some of his people escape. And because L3 imagines that Lando is attracted to her, you're rejecting it as if it's an objective truth. Got it.

"But sir. Nobody worries about upsetting a droid!"

L3 wasn't funny, her pro-droid rants added nothing to the narrative she dies 20 minutes after showing up and droid rights isn't the point of the film and is never brought up ever again.

L3 is a re-skinned Jar Jar Binks. The character sucks plain and simple.

Lots of things aren't the point of the film. That fills you with loathing?

It's maybe not the POINT of the film, but....

"Nobody's going to tell us what to do."

"Everybody serves someone Han."

The movie as a whole fills me with loathing because it sucks and doesn't elevate the franchise, but L3 simply annoys. Why do you identify with this character so much? Are you a droids rights activist or something? There is nothing redeeming about this character and I did not like L3 or care about L3 when it was destroyed. The fact they uploaded L3's brain to the Falcon just annoyed me even more so canonically L3 has been with us forever and takes away from Han's skill as a pilot because it's been L3 all along.

Seriously I'm done with Star Wars. I will only watch the future movies if it's for free and nothing else is on. I will no longer give this franchise my money.

marvel franchise is same or worse, yet why dont we see people jumping on the band wagon of hate on it?

So L3 doesn't fill you with loathing now. Simply annoys you. Fine.

Who says I identify with the character? Just you in response to me pointing out your hysterical hyperbole.

The fact that you are now annoyed at the thought of L3 having been around before (but doing nothing to annoy you) because she's part of the Falcon - that's some special voodoo hurtin going on there.

Well if it makes you feel better, L3 does not exist after the Kessel run. Her neural core and the Falcon's navacomputer fused and evolved in to something else. L3 and the original navacomputer are gone and been replaced by the Falcon's new brain. So don't have nightmares about the nasty woman robot any more.

Is that why you're here? "Ignoring" it?

And are you a sock account for @cswood or something?

Helpful tip: it is unnecessary to continually re -post all the old (quotes) conversations.

What are you talking about? You've got of plenty of people hating on it now can we go back to talking about star wars?

Marvel has a much better track record and is pleasing the majority of its fans, though I fear Captain Marvel looks to be making the same mistake as Ghostbusters (2016) did. Still, I've loved their last 8-10 movies so they at least have my trust.

Explain to me what about this character drives you to defend it? Enlighten me. Change my mind as to why this character deserves your devotation.

It annoys me because it's a retcon. Now granted you can do nice retcon like the Death Star weakness being an act of sabotage, but the fact the Falcon has this annoying droid brain in it means that all the times it does something incredible it's not because the human pilot character is skilled, it's because the robot brain did it. It takes away from the original characters which these new Disney Star Wars films seem to be hellbent on ruining the original characters.

You can't just rely on the strawman that people are driven to defend something whenever you are being asked to support your opinions. Nobody's asking you to change your mind or like it.

A retcon is changing something you were told before and being told that it's something different.

Did you even watch Solo? They are only able to take advantage of the Falcon's upgraded navigation capabilities because of the the bravery and skill of both Han and Chewbacca to off-road the ship through into maelstrom. dodging and outrunning fighters, past the maw and the maelstrom monster and then gunning it through the gap of closing bergs in time to make the jump to light speed. It was Han's idea to have L3 fuse itself with the Falcon's navacomputer too.

Anything else you missed? Chewbacca is the wookie, by the way.

what about disney marvel? and the fact that u enjoyed 8 out of 10 marvel movies says a lot about your sheep taste. i hate it how people try to belittle star wars by slapping disneys name on it, they have little to do with your sheep mentality

That's hilarious, the fact I admit I don't like all the MCU movies but most makes me sheep. I don't think that's how being a sheep works. The MCU movies aren't masterpieces but they respect their continuity for the most part and are mostly enjoyable. These new Star Wars films don't do either of those things, and true fans of the Star Wars movies agree. That's a fact, and I didn't even have to insult you to bolster my argument, I just used facts. Try it sometime.

What strawman? I asked you to tell me why you like L3 and you totally dodged the question. Seems like you don't have an argument otherwise you would have made it.

I still think it applies, but even if it doesn't, the decision still sucks just like making Lando pansexual was still a dumb decision, or Han being given his last name by a random Imperial officer. All sucky decisions that retroactively tarnish the characters and the series. Am I wrong?

Did you even watch Solo?

Unfortunately.

It was Han's idea to have L3 fuse itself with the Falcon's navacomputer too.

...in one of the most boring and least interesting action sequences involving the Falcon and just proves Han and Chewie didn't do the Kessel Run on their own skill, they used a disembodied droid brian to do the calculations and then used a drop of hyperfuel to actually escape. It's just, it's bad. It's not well written at all, and the Kessel Run makes no sense.

Anything else you missed? Chewbacca is the wookie, by the way.

Chewie was the only thing I liked about the movie actually, and I guess Glover's version of Lando. Everything else sucks. The villains suck, the plot sucks, the action sequences suck, and the color palette sucks. And Darth Maul ignites his lightsaber over a holo call for... reasons.

I can say the same about Thor Ragnorak, but that was a GREAT movie according to you. why does disney ultimately pay the price for the disastrous last jedi? if it was really disney, and disney was bad, wouldnt that make Marvel bad too? i mean they are making "quality" Marvel movies after all. shouldnt you be praising disney because of you know, Marvel?

also claiming youre smart because youre using a "fact" by stating that the last jedi sucked is kinda depressing. reach for the stars kid.

Sooo...I'm one of those SW fans who swore off theatrical releases for all but the main 9 films, and for once I meant it. Now that it's out on DVD I spent two hours. Sadly, this character (L337) seemed to inject that all-too-common trope of current preachy political discourse into a film where it is not needed. It was kinda funny for about half a second, then it was ludicrous then pretty annoying. I too wonder if it is parody, but given our current context the extremes are so extreme it's harder and harder to tell. With all that being said, Lando's bizzaro-world intimacy with the robot seems even more strange and misplaced. I just can't even explore that thought further....

To be fair (and not ramble on), L337 did shout "We are sentient!" when releasing the bots, but perhaps this was only her? (Or a limited number of bots?) We always have a tendency to anthropomorphize inanimate objects, but to the point of tears? One of the complexities that arise for me is when you start to ask what exactly her (?) character stands for. Is it the gender war? Sentience? Racism? Slavery? All of the above? At best it's a confused effort. I far preferred the assumed progress of previous iterations of the series. One last thought: it does seem to me that Han always gave credit to the ship for his success...but what is this 'dialect error' folks are referencing from the original franchise?

L337's preachiness is comic relief. Maybe she has a point but it's definitely presetned as a quirk and and eccentricity. How anybody would be expected to take the issue seriously is a mystery. Clearly they weren't preaching to the audience. Even then, these movies revolve around rebellion against oppressive masters. It's rather odd that the issue of self realisation and self determination should rankle with people so easily.

Imagine Lethal Weapon 2 getting criticism for preaching about consumer rights due to the characterization of Joe Pesci's character bitching about his sandwich order. People making that complaint would be justifiably mocked for having no sense of humour or some strange irrational phobia about demanding customers at drive thrus.

Perhaps, until she (?) reveals that she believes Lando has a thing for her. That could be a comedic thought until we see Lando caressing her...um...lips (?) as she...um...dies (?). It is that scene which cements her sediments not as comic relief, but some sort of reality. As you have rightly implied it is a minor contention given the scope of the film, but it is also the topic of this thread. :)
