two things about this movie i would like to share:
i was not familiar with christine chubbuck's story (which i guess is acceptable if you're european) and i was utterly shocked with the way she ended her life. given the current overall media situation, movies like christine and nightcrawler play a huge role in alerting both citizens and media workers about the risks of the "blood and guts" style. plus, christine's story has the extra of raising consciousness about mental health.
rebecca hall is surprisingly amazing. this is, IMO, her best role yet by far. too bad christine may not be a "broad band" movie.

Rebecca Hall was amazing indeed. I felt so bad for Christine when she went on that date with George. While she was getting ready for the date, I think that's the only time she was happy in the whole movie.
I know her deep depression caused her suicide, but in some sense it was in vain doing it on national television, because the blood and guts as she put it is exactly what so many movies and tv shows are about now.

well it's not that I doubted her talents, but I've never seen her in such an intense role before. tbh her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona is my only proper prior reference of her performance, though I may have seen her in other movies.

@ausfem I felt bad for her too, the whole date + group therapy + car talk scene is just sad. I don't think it was vanity that compelled Christine to commit suicide live, I believe it was a (very extreme) way to express her anger towards the "blood and guts" demand. It's a shame her "manifest" didn't actually work as an alert to media worldwide, since, as you said, "blood and guts" is what characterizes many media contents nowadays. Nightcrawler deals with the same topic in a very interesting (and impressive) way as well.

No it definitely wasn't vanity. She seemed like a very lonely and sad woman, the George thing made it worse, then her career, just added to her depression and ending her own life.

Oh you wrote "in vain" haha I thought you were saying it was vain of her 🙈 I'm really tired and shouldn't be starring into screens any longer 🤓

I only watched the film because Hall was in it. She's one of my favorites.

I was not familiar with Christine Chubbuk's story or Rebecca Hall. I thought the movie was great. The performances were amazing, especially Rebecca's.
