I didn't like it at all. Actually i don't know why it was called a remake. The characters were all different as was most of the story line. And what was with the American Indian. He seemed to appear out of nowhere.

As a standalone film, I found it quite entertaining. But then again I have a faible for Westerns.
Although I have yet to see the earlier the "original". The Seven Samurai, on which the old remake is based on, I know.
The new remake has enough parallels to Kurosawa's masterpiece to be reminded of it but at the same time standing on its own feet.

Considering I didn't even knew this was a remake of some other movie, I quite enjoyed, but I can't compare it to the original. It's not a remarkable movie but for me it satisfied my Westerns movies "craving". I do agree, a little bit more character background would've helped a lot.

I liked the 2016 version, but the I thought the 1960 version was better. Seven Samurai is another level above, but I know people who did not like it. The cultural differences, the overall raw feel of it, plus the subtitles make Seven Samurai an acquired taste. I gave 2016 a 7, 1960 an 8 and SS a 9 on IMBD. These 3 movies would make one hell of a movie night!
