Micky Maus war die ultimative Zeichentrickfigur in schwarz-weiß. Noch bis 1935 wurden die Micky-Maus-Cartoons in schwarz-weiß gedreht, obwohl Walt Disney mit „Flowers and Trees“ bereits 1932 den ersten farbigen Cartoon realisiert und dafür den Oscar gewonnen hatte. Der Grund dafür, dass die populären Micky-Cartoons erst relativ spät auf Farbe umgestellt wurden, waren schlichtweg die sehr viel höheren Produktionskosten für einen Farbfilm. Da Micky bereits in schwarz-weiß sehr erfolgreich war, fand Walt Disney, es würde sich nicht rechnen, die Filme in Farbe zu produzieren. Schließlich war es kaum vorstellbar, dass farbige Micky-Maus-Cartoons noch mehr Erfolg haben könnten als ohnehin schon.
