Discuss The Bad Batch

I really wanted to like this.... It started off pretty strong, and I liked the visual style, but once the lead actress made it to Comfort, the whole thing really slowed down. Most of the acting wasn't very good, and the accents sounded fake. I also thought the "love story" aspect wasn't developed well enough.

Agreed. I was pretty excited about this after hearing all the hype from the film fests. But I feel like it was a let down. Started out strong but slowly just went down hill. The acting was pretty good IMO, as was the visuals and locations. But something just seemed...off. I think most of the hype was because the director was a female from Iran. We all know how Hollywood is trying to be hip and progressive. So anything with a female or minority in it will get extra special attention. :/

The movie was disappointing. Great set up though. Tbh I think this movie was about Veganism. @last scene for example

and the dialogue sucked too tbh. It tried hard to be True Detective s1 or American Gods.

I agree. I couldn't understand Arlen's motivations at all. Why didn't she like Comfort? It's not like she was suffering, as she appeared to be doing pretty well for herself there (better than most at least). And she gave no reason other than she decided she didn't like the town while she was trippin' balls on acid. Did she falsely blame the town for Honey's disappearance instead of herself for taking a hit of acid while she was taking care of a kid? Did she like the Miami Man only because he was big? That was pretty much the only thing I took from their love story. Other than she wanted to help him get back his daughter as she wanted to do something good for once in her life. Though that is debatable since The Dream was treating Honey very well. Yes, he is a cult leader and a drug lord, but he was trying to do good with the community, and he wasn't feeding Honey a girl that he recently killed only because she was begging not to be eaten anymore. Why risk being with him? He's a murderous cannibal whose mother of his daughter Arlen herself excecuted in front of her. This relationship can't end well for her. Etc..

Also, I couldn't understand why the hermit was burning money on a fire, when they clearly established that Comfort still uses regular denominations in their trade, so they weren't worthless. You could buy noodles for a dollar there and he was burning 10s to cook a raven he hunted.

I kept looking at this movie like it was Fallout 4. My settlements are very much like Comfort. Which were primarily designed to keep me well supplied with money, drugs, and weapons in which the settlers are rewarded with a club like atmosphere which are safe from others wanting to kill and eat them with working toilets (ala mods). Also, I keep several girls around for...ahem..."The Lover's Embrace". If any of you also play Fallout 4, I'm fairly sure your settlements are like that as well.

Still it was interesting to see a fat Keanu Reeves. I hardly recognized him, and surprised me when I made the realization who was playing The Dream.

Agreed. Visually stunning, especially some of the tripping sequences, but so slow and underdeveloped as to be tiresome.

No to mention, a ton of ridiculous impossibilities. I mean ca'mon!!
