Sorry to disagree but I really dislike James Wan's film making (except for his debut, Saw). He's just too over the top and doesn't understand the importance of subtlety in horror. Less is more!
I found the first half of the first Conjuring unsettling, but this had no scares at all. They even blew the scene with the nun and her painting (they should have made her shadow switch off the light again, that would have freaked me out).
This film was better than the prequel in terms of the lighter touches and the scepticism of some of the characters. If they'd managed to combine those elements from the second film with the setup of the first film this could have been a genuine horror classic. As it is, its just two deeply flawed but fairly watchable films that I give 5/10.
