To conceal his nighttime infidelity from his wife Gisele, Pierre calls in a particularly shady private detective to concoct an alibi. He is introduced to a certain Robert Crémieux, who will pass himself off to Gisèle as a childhood friend with whom he spent the night until the early hours of the morning. The so-called childhood friend turns out to be a delinquent accused of burglary and rape on the very night he was supposed to be with Pierre. Pierre is immediately suspected of being his accomplice and, trapped by his own turpitude, arrested. Entangled in his lies and denials, he has to admit his infidelity to get out of the impasse.

Pour cacher à sa femme Gisèle son infidélité de la nuit, Pierre fait appel à un détective privé particulièrement louche pour lui concocter un alibi. Un certain Robert Crémieux lui est ainsi présenté qui se fera passer auprès de Gisèle comme un ami d'enfance retrouvé le soir même et avec qui il aura passé la nuit jusqu'au petit matin. Le prétendu ami d'enfance se trouve en fait être un délinquant accusé d'un cambriolage et d'un viol la nuit où précisément il était censé être avec Pierre. Ce dernier est aussitôt soupçonné d'être son complice et, pris au piège par sa propre turpitude, arrêté. Empêtré dans ses mensonges, et ses dénégations, il lui faut pourtant se résoudre à avouer son infidélité pour se sortir de l'impasse.

Tendo passado a noite com sua amante, Pierre apresenta sua esposa a um chamado "amigo de infância" com quem ele supostamente passou a noite. O amigo-álibi sendo de fato um delinquente acusado de roubo e estupro durante a famosa noite, é Pierre quem serve como seu álibi. Suspeito de ser cúmplice, ele é preso.

Пьер, не придя ночью домой, говорит жене, что ночевал у своего друга Робера, не зная при этом, что Робер в ту ночь совершил аварию и скрылся с места происшествия, за что имеет теперь неприятности с полицией. Таким образом Пьер становится соучастником преступления. Выбрав из двух зол меньшее, он наконец говорит правду и пытается убедить полицейских, что ночь он провёл у Моник, подруги своего коллеги Жака.
