The first half was essentially Happy Days: The Movie
Looking at the crew credits, and so many names that were attached to Lucas ca. 1977, I can't help but picture a bunch of seventy-year-olds sitting in a writers' room and slapping each other on the back about how neat it would be to have a diner scene devolve into West Side Story. And have mutt turn into Tarzan.
Because every millenial loves Tarzan and the Sharks and Jets goin' at it.
And that brings up another point. Tarantino has feet. J.J. has lens flare. Lucas? DINER SCENES. Cringey, saccharine, Norman Rockwellian diner scenes. Enough with the freakin' diner scenes already. I hope if Clerks 3 is ever made, Dante and Randall lambast Lucas for all the diner scenes.

Stupid is stupid regardless of the decade. I'm sure they thought they were creating some kind of an iconic or memorable scene with the bar fight or with the fencing on top of the cars, but it's just stupid. Then you have the scene where Karen Allen just nonchalantly drives off a cliff in a car with all of them in it because she just knows that there is a tree there waiting, which will break their fall even though she has no human way of knowing what is on the other side of the cliff as she is driving towards it nor that it would support the cars weight either way.
