Discuss Z for Zachariah

Underrated movie about desire, sexual possessiveness and the will to survive... It's thought provoking on so many levels...

What would you do if the veneer of society was stripped away?

At the end, when Loomis has to decide whether or not to let Caleb fall to his death... What would you have done?

Renovatio--

I wouldn't have let Caleb fall to his death*. I'm a pretty non-confrontational person, and to answer your question, even if the veneer of society was stripped away, if it's between me and another man vying for the last woman, and she seems attracted to that other man, I'd go away and let him have her.

I'm not so ruled by my libido that I'd HAVE to have sex; I wasn't that way even in my teenage years.

  • Back when that other website still allowed discussions, just FYI, there was a small group of fans of this movie who thought Caleb did not die. They thought he was a drifter who just went away and believed Loomis' story about Caleb's disappearance. Just so you know there is another perspective on his disappearance:)

Well... i would have certainly taken my chance with Ann far earlier when I had the opportunity rather than to drag it out unnecessarily... that was a rookie mistake, even if you think you're the last person in the world, you strike while the iron's hot... Also, it was very presumptuous of Loomis' to think that he'd always have Ann as an option after rejecting her... He seemed inexperienced with women...

I am a moral person and do think that it is innate, I wouldn't have done anything I wouldn't do now, with regards to the lack of societal repercussions, so she'd have to want me...

But, when it comes to competing with another man to pass on my genes to the next generation... literal survival of the species and of my own DNA... It's a tough call... I can't say it would have been an easy choice... Certainly not in Loomis' position as he was at a disadvantage against Caleb as he had already started a relationship with Ann... I think I would have let Caleb fall, but I wouldn't have given that none-sense story about Caleb leaving, just play dumb, don't bring it up and play it out that way...

I didn't realise that there was an question to whether Loomis' killed Caleb or not... I thought it was clear from how unconvincing he was went telling Ann about it...

All is fair in love and war... Or is it?
