I greatly enjoy this confection. It's only 65 minutes in duration, but is a nicely developed complete story that covers all the necessary bases, is full of charm, good humour, wit, cleverness, refined manners and style, and thoroughly entertains throughout.
Kay Francis and George Brent make a wonderful team, as always. They were a frequent (I believe total of five times) stars pairing, had terrific rapport with one another, and in this is no exception. Genevieve Tobin is likewise effervescently a complete delightful treat. The three mentioned actors are all favourites of mine.
The one cast member who I'm not crazy about - and never am with her when she's in a movie (I find her entirely charisma-free and bland) - is Claire Dodd as the female jewel thief.
Although this movie was made and released during the Production Code era, it, story wise, is surprisingly adult, getting away with much more than one would expect for a 1935 film.
I rate The Goose and the Gander 7 out of 10.
