Kuzco shouldn't have fired someone who was his mother figure, and Yzma shouldn't have been trying to run his country behind his back....Twice. Apparently, it's implied he forgave her the first time she tried to run his country, but when she did it again, he had to fire her. They were both at fault with the tension between them

Nah I think Yzma's 100% at fault. She shouldn't be doing any of the emperor's jobs behind his back. That's like a nurse doing surgery behind a surgeon's back.
