Discuss 77 Sunset Strip

MeTV started the series from episode 1 last night. Looks like they'll keep it going for a while. Really didn't like the Stuart Bailey solo episodes from season 6.

I agree on the solo Stu Bailey episodes. Without the 77 Sunset Strip "gang" around, it was really boring.

And I didn't like that there was no mention of the other characters, and what happened to them?

Ask Jack Webb... sorry for the sarcasm. He revamped the series, canned everyone except Efrem Zymbalist, and ran the show into the ground. After it was cancelled half way through season six, Warner Brothers fired Webb too.

Thanks for shedding light on that for me.

Funny, because Jack Webb ran that same 2 partner police concept on TV for many years with both the Dragnet and Adam-12 TV shows, and it was very successful.

He should have also stayed with the same casting formula format for 77SS for its whole run.

Heads-up! On early Friday morning, July 27, 2018 at 4:00 am EDT, MeTV is starting the series again from season 1, episode 1. The cool hipster episodes from 1958 >

Yay MeTV! It's good to see they are continuing to show this epic series.

I like having it also.

But as they have ran through all the episodes 2x already, I would much prefer some other WB Detective shows instead - like Surfside 6, Hawaiian Eye, or Bourbon Street Beat.

I'd LOVE to see Bourbon Street Beat! I've never seen it. I remember watching all the others as a child. Our local station, way back when, chose not to show BSB. Never knew why.

I caught all the BSB reruns about 15 years ago on the old Nostalgia TV network.

I loved the New Orleans setting, and Richard Long and Andrew Duggan particularly as the agency detectives. It was a great show, very underrated. Hopefully, we will get lucky with more reruns soon!

Oh yes! I've seen them all, especially Hawaiian Eye and Surf Side 6. They were pretty progressive for the time. A lot of beefcake. The guys walked around the beaches with no shirts. Eye candy for us ladies! grinning

Ha Ha Ha! That's the Cinnamon I remember from the old boards!

I had nothing against Richard Long or his character Rex Randolph, joining the show. But I am curious, did he maintain his BSB Rex Randolph characterization and personality, once he moved to 77 Sunset Strip?

Yes, he came over to 77SS in his same Rex Randolph character, moving from New Orleans to join the agency.

Additionally, there was a very young rookie detective (Van Williams as "Kenny Madison") appearing in BSB as the 3rd operative. Once Warner Brothers canceled BSB, Long moved over to 77SS, and Van Williams joined the cast of Surfside 6 in Miami Beach. He also moved in character as Kenny Madison.

I had forgotten Van Williams got his start on Bourbon Street Beat. I'd like to see those episodes again, too. But of all the WB detective series, this appears to be the least popular. I can't see MeTV airing this, like 77SS. Maybe on the weekend like Mr. Lucky, another one-season wonder cancelled too soon! I'd watch!!

True, BSB was not as popular as the other WB detective shows, but I really liked this one with the cool New Orleans backdrop. Perhaps as it was less popular, MeTV could get a great price to lease the series!

Great suggestion to run it once a week on the weekends.

Wow, yes! Let's hope someone from MeTV is reading these. With only 38 episodes, they could easily go into a two or three year run. 77SS is starting its third iteration on the network.
