Discuss The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

After 3 episodes I can only hope this show will get even slightly better. So far this is a complete flop, the writing is so messy and incoherent for a second I thought it's DC. The story lacks any interest or logic, there is no structure to this boring plot of any kind, just characters being thrown from one point to another. Like this dumpster fire of a story just drags them along and they have no will of their own . The show is chaotic and stupid, the focus is mainly on action scenes while everything else is just horrible and even the production feels cheap.

The chemistry between Bucky and Sam is similar to a chemistry between two rotten zombie corpses marching in a horde. And it's probably Mackie's fault as he is not good actor at all. All the attempts for a clever dialog or a serious talk are pathetic at best, only exposing the ridiculous nature of their motivations and purposes. In fact the most interesting character in the show is the new Cap, he seems like a smart and charismatic person that actually feels like a human being as oppose to everyone else that feel like bad caricatures. Maybe because he appears rarely and says little, something that Sam can adopt.

The show would've been much better if it was just Winter Soldier, for sure. Take Falcon out of the equation or give him very brief minor role, focus on Bucky as lonely wolf investigating new super soldiers, add new Cap opposite of him as a rivalry competitor going after the same thing and you get much better story. Falcon is not a good character to be at center, Mackie is a bad actor to do something significant with him, he is like a third wheel in every situation he enters.

There are more episodes and with WandaVision it also took a bit time to get it on a good vibe, but this show started so far off I think the course is already set towards huge brick wall, full speed.

Ok

I have no massive interest in the MCU post Avengers 4 and views like this make me feel I'm not missing out on anything worthwhile

OP is overreacting a little bit. It's been a little boring so far, but I don't get the Anthony Mackie hate at all. Seems like Anthony Mackie may have stole his gf or something. The new Cap is not meant to be likeable at all so I'm a little confused haha. I really like Wyatt Russell, he's good at playing likeable and dislikeable characters (Lodge 49, Folk Hero and Funny Guy, Black Mirror, etc.).

The end of episode 3 sparked my interest, hoping it improves from here.

Come on, we all like Marvel and MCU and we want them to deliver great movies and TV shows, but it can't blind us from being critical and point out the weak results. I mean, Antman 2 was piece of sh!t on every level, Black Panther is overrated and mediocre at best and last Spider-Man: Far from Home was a really bad movie after the first one was funny and entertaining. And now this show, calling it embarrassing is a compliment, it was way worse.

There is no excuse for a stupid writing, and I don't care they had to re-cut and re-shoot the series because of covid-19. If it was important then they should have put more thought into it. Everything in this show is just horrible, from the characters and dialogs between them, to completely irrational behavior and lack of logic in anything that was going on.

For example, in one scene flag smashers fight Sam and Bucky and then new Cap and Lemar join in. And it looked like super soldiers were overpowering the team, but then Lemar was killed and suddenly everyone stops because new Cap needed a dramatic moment over his dead friend. Although there were number of people thrown to the walls before that and no one stopped then. But now they stop, like it's very important for everyone. And then flag smashers start running and splitting up. Why? They were looking for the fight, they lured them, they were better, why did they start running? Where?

And in another example, Sharon helped them find that doctor in the ships containers. But if she is Power Broker and he works for her, why did she even tell them? She risked him although he was the only one to produce serums. And she stayed back and didn't control the situation and eventually got him killed. Where is her logic here? It's like this is what was cool to show in that episode and the writers just didn't give a sh!t they are making a plot hole. And please, spare me your over-analyzing this crap and maybe this or maybe that. Nothing you can say will improve this, the show should speak for itself and prove intentions and motivations inside, not by letting fans overthink all possible excuses.

And there are so many examples like that, there is absolutely no logic in decision that these characters take. It makes the show cartoonish and stupid. Sam suddenly super acrobatic without any visible training. He gets new super gadget suit with voice controlled drones and some high level technology and he controls it intuitively like he is operating it for years. Where did he get the suit, how can he control it so well? Nothing is explained, except how he throws shield few times at trees.

And all the pathos, and the morale preaching, and the simple people on the street cheering like they even know what is going on from the few seconds they see something passing them.

This show feels like rushed hack job just to do something because the deadline was due. Like they just needed to mark few checkboxes on their way to announce new Cap movie and move their new phase to the next step. I hope this absolute disaster of a show is not a significant indicator for the future of MCU, but frankly it sure looks like it.

ye bro

After resubscribing to Disney+ we all sat down to watch the entire show but by the end of episode 6 I was the only one still watching!

It was exactly what I feared it would be, a big pile of meh.

The only positives I took from it were; Wyatt Russell as Captain America, the return of Baron Zemo (and his unique dance moves) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

A massive disappointment after the wonderful WandaVision.

I'm not saying you don't have a few points, I can see why many of those criticisms can be leveled at it. But no matter which way you look at it I can't see how it would appear cheap. It had an expensive looking action scene in almost every episode. Not a common occurrence in tv shows. You'd be in for quite a shock if you ever caught an episode of Arrow or The Flash.

This show is pretty good and clearly better than Wandavision.

The series doesn't start badly, but from episode 2 onwards it slips into the typical Disney stereotypes (poor oppressed minorities, old white evil men etc.) - I kept watching until the end even though it got worse with every episode. Can only advise against wasting your life on this really bad series.

The Falcon is Captain America in the movie "Captain America: Brave New World (2025)".
