Discuss Star Trek: Picard

Don't want to make anything to complicated for today's audience I guess

It quite hysterical to see that despite Trek becoming less complicated some people think it actually is becoming more complex and deeper. laughing

And it has been a steady downgrade since the first one in 2009 do people actually believe this is intelligent?

Don't get me started 😒

I really like Star Trek 2009 and Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Trek Beyond; not so much (even though Idris Elba is in it). I don't think they are dumbed down at all. I also like season two of Discovery. I know that the Canon Extremists hate it. They'll hate Picard too. I've seen all three episodes of Picard, they're good (especially if you don't compare them to the lunatic-in-chief).

Hate is too big of a word just like calling them Star Trek.Look the whole premise of ST09 is stupid like now Spock knows in the Kelvin timeline that in the future Romulus is going to be destroyed by it's sun going supernova(the fact that Romulus orbits a main sequence type G star and that these type of stars don't go supernova shows both a)how little the writers know about Trek b)How little scientific understanding the writers have)and that because of that he is going to meet a Romulan Nero who for some reason blames Spock and as revenge goes back to the past to destroy Vulcan.Don't you think Spock being the logical man he is and that Nero's actions were a temporal violation would at least warn the Romulans long before the tragedy hits not only preventing the situation that STP finds itself in and secondly the Kelvin timeline would be erased before it even got the chance to exist because Spock would stay clear of Nero so he wouldn't take revenge on Spock and Vulcan.

They're still good movies. I'm not a Canon Extremist so I just enjoy the movies. They can be a bit different because they're IN A DIFFERENT TIMELINE!

I suspect it's only possible to enjoy the Jar Jar Abrams movies if you "mind meld" them in your head with the originals. Otherwise, how to explain - just for one example - Kirk being the best captain ever even though he doesn't get all the experiences that made him so? The experiences we hear about in TOS - serving under Captain Garrovick, etc - all of which are skipped in the Jar Jar movies. But maybe people who saw TOS are somehow believing he still has all of that experience behind him, even though he clearly doesn't?

The best "explanation" I've come up with so far is that the Jar Jar movies are wish-fulfillment for a generation who thinks they too are qualified to be starship captains because they're so good at video games and skateboarding.

Thank you for sharing.

Now you sound like Sybok Maria grinning

I was hoping to sound Spockish.

No it was Sybok who was into the sharing stuff (pain and all)Maria I know ST V isn't highly regarded.

It was okay. Fun fact: William Shatner wanted Sir Sean Connery to play Sybok, and the Vulcan version of heaven, Sha-ka-ree, is named after him.

Yeah it was on the commentary track on the DVD of ST V one of the commentators actually did a very good impression of him saying Sybok lines like "Share your pain" which was quite hilarious.

Look, for some ST "fanboys" only a Kirk look-a-like, TOS redo in the fashion of a Pike/Spock series will do. These people are NOT interested in Sci-fi; they are NOT really concerned about 'canon'; they are not concerned about realism; they have no concept of drama and zero artistic vision. If a ST series were done in Tom and Jerry like cartoon fashion they would embrace it AS LONG AS it presented a vision the FANTASIZE about daily!

Their opinions are not important. They will eventually watch The Orville, because it's vision, tone and concept is much closer to what they really want.

Kurtzman is making Tom and Jerry cartoon style Star Trek it is style over substance it has carboard cut out characters that make cardboard cut out characters feel bad. Those characters act and speak in every conceivably cliché imaginably. They steal designs plot ideas concepts and stories because it looks and spounds cool and it worked so well on other (better) shows. And the shows contradicts the things it preaches with examples of hidden misogyny, racial stereotyping, ageism, misandry etc.As for what happens we will have to wait and see Viacom/CBS has announced major changes with things considering CBS All Access and Star Trek in June so based on the inside rumors there is a very reel possibility that a lot of what was leaked previously is actually true and what the access media are reporting is 99% is fake(Kurtzman seems to have a habit of announcing things that have not been approved by the heads of viacom/CBS)
