Discuss Enemigo íntimo

Though the situations are very contrived and banal, the story is interesting enough to watch. However, the writers cannot help themselves from displaying their hatred of Donald Trump. Captain Alejandro Ferrer is a federal police officer in Mexico who breaks the law in pursuit of bad guys, going as far as pulling a man's tooth with a pair of pliers and no drugs, in order to get information from him. "I break the law because I care so much" is sort of his theme.
At one point he meets with an American FBI agent who says to him "You and I both hate my President" Alejandro nods in agreement. He also speaks of how bad things have become since "orange hair" entered office. I am over halfway through now and wondering if I should stick with it the rest of the way. The story is dragging and none of the characters are that interesting. The writing is less than inspired, recycling well worn tropes in predictable fashion. I am not sure I even care who El Profesor is, or when Alejandro finds out who his long lost sister is.

And that's a bad thing because?

No it doesn't bother me about that. But I don't like when writers are lazy and then resort to tossing in political statements unrelated to the story. They never explained what had gone wrong or how it impacted the plot. It made no sense to the story that I could see. It was just like 'I hate Trump' was tossed in there and it didn't relate to anything they were talking about. Also, I am used to formula writing and I understand it. Certain things work and there is a market for them, there is an audience which enjoys certain types of formulas in writing. I'm not saying everything has to be original to be interesting. I think they could have done more with character development and stayed within the formula they chose, but the story is interesting enough, so it works. Some of the situations are badly contrived, in my opinion, so instead of building tension they tend more to make me laugh. Like when they sent Daniel the undercover cop into the prison and didn't build a good backstory for him until they realized someone was checking up on him. Very contrived and dumb. It is hard to get worried about that situation. Who would send in an undercover cop without having a water tight back story for him, and making him learn it completely? He was supposed to be good at American football, and he was never told about that. So they were scrambling to try to keep him from getting busted and killed in prison. But that whole situation seemed so contrived and unreal that it was hard to get worried about it.

Overall it is a good story. Alejandro is the gung ho cop with a tortured soul who is out to take down the cartel that murdered his parents and kidnapped his sister. His sister has traumatic amnesia for the gruesome murders and her kidnapping which happened when she was very young. I am on a binge now to see how Alejandro will find out who his sister is. I watched enough that I have to see how they finish the story now.
