Gesunder Menschenverstand
Im Herbst 1937 – nach Abschluss seines Studiums – macht sich der Schotte James Herriot auf den Weg nach Yorkshire. Er hofft, eine Anstellung als Assistent in der Landpraxis des Tierarztes Siegfried Farnon zu bekommen. Farnon, ein skurriler, lebensfroher Junggeselle, will dem eifrigen jungen Mann eine Chance geben. Zunächst jedoch muss James sein Können unter Beweis stellen. Farnon nimmt ihn mit über Land und konfrontiert ihn nicht nur mit dem ‚lieben Vieh‘, sondern auch mit den dickköpfigen Farmern, die dem Anfänger mit Skepsis oder gar Spott begegnen.

James treats a severely injured dog and has a bit of difficulty with the local dialect.
