Discuss Ackley Bridge

Item: Ackley Bridge

Language: en

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: This is an open question about the (locked!) overview for this show. At the moment, the overview reads:

"The merging of two schools causes plenty of problems for headmistress Mandy who has to deal with explosive fall-outs and problem pupils."

That's exactly the wording on IMDb - but it might not be the "official" overview and probably not the best choice for TMDb? Because, when I go to the official network Channel 4, it reads:

"Schools drama series set in a Yorkshire mill town, where a new academy school merges the lives and cultures of the largely divided white and Asian community."

Open question: Wouldn't it be better to use the official overview from Channel 4 instead of the other one from IMDb? Unless, the one from IMDb is also an official (earlier?) version - that's what I don't exactly know and can't/couldn't find out.

I agree. I think the merging of asian+white is also an important aspect of the show (haven't seen/heard anything about the show), so definitely word to mention.

I've shuffle the channel4 synopsis to: "A new academy school in a Yorkshire mill town merges the lives and cultures of the largely divided white and Asian community"

(to get rid of the " drama school series set in" part, as we don't usually want to mention genres in the synopsis, like actor names).

Would keywords like "racial tension" be a good fit for the show? I'm asssuming you've seen it haha!

Yes, it is very important for the show.

I also think that's alright for an overview. Thanks Marr! smiley_cat

Yes, I've seen this done before by you and other mods and it's fine.

To be honest, I skipped a lot of the 3 episodes so far - it's not a very good show and some parts are just too boring. But I needed something completely different for a day - so ... stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye

I would say "racial tension" fits as a keyword, but I'm not really good with those in general. It's always hard for me to put concepts of a whole show in proper English short words - I'm not very good at shortening my thoughts. The show definitely deals with racial issues, but it's complicated and mixed with questions of identity (coming of age), religious/patriarchal traditions, and differences between rich and poor people. It's hard to describe for me ...

Another thing I want to add here just for future reference:

Today I've added all credits for season 1, episode 3 - from the actual screen. My problem is that I can't find episodes 1&2 with end credits at the moment - meaning it's impossible for me to add the credits for those 2 episodes. So, right now, it's not complete at all - I can't do anything about it ...

UPDATE: I've added all the infos for episode 4 from the screen credits, but it's (almost) impossible to differentiate between main actors/actresses and guest stars. The end credits of episodes 3 and 4 are in completely different order, and there only seems to be a blank line after credit no. 19 to indicate that there's a difference. I don't know, that's the best I can do so far ...

Best wishes,

janar

Tough one! "Jo Joyner, Paul Nicholls, Sunetra Sarker, Liz White, Adil Ray, Arsher Ali, Poppy Lee-Friar and Amy Leigh-Hickman" seem to be the main actors and actress based on the press releases, but it doesn't necessarily mean series one only has eight regulars. thinking

Great, I didn't know about this press pack with so much background info, thanks! slight_smile Unfortunately, some infos are definitely wrong and/or not up to date ... slight_frown

The biggest mistake I can see so far is that director Penny Woolcock did only episodes 1&2 - instead of all 6 according to this press release. According to the opening credits, Robert Quinn directed episodes 3&4, and Jon East did episodes 5&6 - but they are both not even mentioned in this press pack. So, I can't rely on this entirely, but when I find a bit more time, I will take a look at it and compare it to how I arranged it now.

It's a bit similar for the main actors. For example, Arsher Ali is in the main cast according to this press release - but he is definitely not in episode 4. Because of that, I decided to exclude him (and a few others) from the main cast, and I added him to all the other episodes as a guest star. I think that's more accurate regarding the episode count, despite his status as a prominent actor within the ensemble. I guess the press release goes for prominence, I'm more looking for accuracy, and I had to make a decision.

Which means there are now 15 actresses/actors in the main cast for season 1. Those 15 are in all 6 episodes, they are not in the background or minor characters, and they are part of certain story arcs of season 1 that are important. The order is by my choice, because the end credits of every episode seem to be ordered by appearance within this specific episode, meaning they are all different. I think those 15 are alright for season 1 ...

Just for another update and as an overview:

I watched all 6 episodes, but I still can't find the end credits for episodes 1&2. So far, I did contribute all the data for episodes 3 to 6 from the screen. These 2 things remain open at the moment:

1.) For episodes 1&2, I took the full cast (!) credits from here:

http://www.radiotimes.com/tv-programme/e/fqptg4/ackley-bridge--series-1-episode-1/
http://www.radiotimes.com/tv-programme/e/fqzdhp/ackley-bridge--s1-e2-ackley-bridge/

They look quite accurate, because I compared them to the episodes. That means all the info to the actors/actresses for season 1 is most likely (!) complete and correct at the moment.

2.) For episodes 1&2, I can't find a full list of crew members anywhere. Which is even worse for this season 1, because most likely the full list differs a lot from the other episodes. I can assume this because there are already a lot of differences between episodes 3&4 and episodes 5&6 - it looks to me that every director worked with people she's/he's familiar with. That means, the info regarding the episode crews of 1&2 is definitely not complete at the moment, but I can't do anything about it.

I also fixed/updated a lot of pages for actresses/actors/crew members for the show, but I'm not nearly done. It just takes a lot of time that I don't have at the moment ...

I think that's all the info for season 1 - next year, it will go on. camel
