Discuss Lethal Weapon

I had high hopes for this show because the movies were a fun part of my childhood. But after a few episodes it started to get bland, like Fox had decided to go after the CBS police procedural target audience. I was getting ready to give up on it and then episode 11, "Lawman" came along and convinced me to stop watching the series. The way they made the captain into a saint - just one isolated black mark on his record which he tortured himself over but couldn't take responsibility for lest he put 400 other "good" convictions back out on the street - that was a moral failure by the writers.

Unlike the obviously exaggerated misconduct of Riggs, that storyline was written as understated and plausible in a way which gives viewers so inclined to excuse real-world police misconduct a way to rationalize it. The writers did not have to write that story, they could have just passed on it.
