Discuss Fleabag

Series 2 is even more insane! rofl

Fleabag: "I want to f... a priest."
Counsellor: "Do you really want to f... the priest, or do you want to f... God?"
Fleabag: "Can you f... God?"
Counsellor: "Oh, yes."

Fleabag (to Martin): "I'm happy for you. I'm happy you found a way to deflect from your pitiful, self-sabotaging, ego-driven, masturbatory...I cannot believe how well this is coming out...pawing, insidious, overwhelming mediocrity, only to finally figure out that at your very core, you are a weaky."

One LOL scene that sticks in my mind is when she and Bank Manager are smoking together outdoors at the "retreat" and he confesses to her that he was a very disappointing man, having touched a colleague's breast more than once at a party (thus the reason why he was at the retreat). Fleabag then flashes open her jacket, inviting him to cop a feel and he says, "No thanks, I'm trying to quit"!!! Yet as funny as the scene was, in its entirety there was a poignancy that's typical of her gifted screenwriting skills. Another memorable scene was after a disastrous family dinner when Fleabag's guest Ar**hole Guy tells her it's so nice to spend a day with a "normal family", that it made him feel quite emotional!!!

Still, were it not for Phoebe Waller-Bridge's tremendous charisma, wit, timing and her fore-mentioned writing skill, the character of Fleabag could've come very close to being dismissed as yet another foul-mouthed, over-sexed, wrecked young woman outdoing the most boorish and objectifying of men. There's even the cliche of The Doltish Father thrown in, although he has a few key redeeming moments, all which I presume (maybe wrongly) relegates the show's appeal pretty much to female-only.
