When they are about to leave, James tells Brace that he isn't going and that he represents his Fathers Ideals and that they are going to embrace to embrace his Mothers ideals in the New World, in addition to saying that if he were to receive freedom, he wouldn't know what to do with it. It is very telling because he is basically saying that Brace represents the thinking of the Old World and would not fit in with what James wants to accomplish in the New World and wouldn't really know what to do if he was truly free in a land that is opposite of what he has come to believe making Brace a symbol of the Old World in England, in addition, I think James also thought he would not make it as well and he was rewarding those who have helped him throughout his scheme. There is one thing that bothers me and that is why they did not put the passengers on the ship instead of waiting until the troops, probably would have resulted in less casualties.
