It's obvious that from the start that this episode's music is very different from what we expect to hear on TNG. In fact, composer Ron Jones was fired for music that was "too noticeable." I find some bad or mediocre music on movies and tv irritating, but I thought the music on this episode was outstanding and made it much better than typical TNG music would have. I think Jones's music really fits the mood of this episode and in fact would be worth hearing with no video at all.
