Discuss The Flash

This was it? They defeated Savitar, but now Barry has to go into the speed force? Umm wait a minute, why can't they put in the Flash from Earth 2 again? I mean he was in there until they released him. He can just as easily go back in no? What is there a limit to how many times you can be in the speed force? Why does a speedster always have to be in it? Then the way they defeated Savitar, wtf was that? Barry can just jump into him and trade places? Why not just do that from the beginning? I'm more confused now than ever with this show. I have to re-watch this, but I'm not sure it's going to help.

It's the prison they created (in the future) for Savitar; which arguably should cease to exist once Savitar did, but I guess the reasoning is that a Speed Force based prison exists outside of time, hence the reason the prison that hasn't been created yet already exists. Still, it would have made more sense for Cisco's "skeleton key" that released Jay simply broke down the structure of the prison entirely. It didn't even really make sense that it had to be a one-for-one deal. The premise it was work from related to the charge a speedster builds up when they run, and how Savitar's suit discharges it the way Flash's suit does; so they figured they could reverse the charge encapsulate Savitar in a shell of his own Speed Force energies.

I didn't like the ending with Barry going into the speed, because the whole thing seemed disingenuous when we know he'll be back next season. If this were Grant Guston's last episode; sure, it would be fine, even if I'd prefer him to go out like Barry Allen did in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Meanwhile, the resolution of Savitar's story was so-so. I jokingly called it last year that they were just going to go through a different Harrison Wells each season; my guess is that trend will continue. Next year will probably be nudist Wells... I think I might have liked it better if the ultimate birth of Savitar was completely unavoidable; where in spite of Barry and Team Flash focusing on this particular circumstance of Iris' death, the fluid nature of time means Savitar could always rise out of a different, yet similar experience. This would happen when a future version of Barry, following the events of last week's episode, goes back in time and stops Iris' death from happening, but as a result he creates an alternate timeline where he is the time remnant, and poised to become Savitar - which as the result of some confluence of circumstances he does; and intends to set things back the way they "should" be, in some fashion, targeting those closest to Other Barry. In the end, they manage to get through to the older Savitar, the one we've been seeing; and he regains his sense of humanity, perhaps with Caitlyn's help, as she slow regains her own identity; and he stops his younger self, at the cost of his own life.

Are you writer for this show? Cause you sound like how they write.

The episode was ok up until that stupid ending. I hate season ending cliff hangars.

I'll try not to be insulted by that...

I was so disappointed with this episode. It made the Supergirl finale look Emmy-worthy (which I actually thought was good, but not great. ARROW was great, but that's a different topic.) Right off the bat I was angry that H.R. died. He became my favorite character and they fooled me in the beginning because I was on board with the theory that it was H.R., but seeing him walk up to Joe made me think it wasn't him and he was alive. I was glad! But when "Iris" dropped the drum sticks, my heart sank. Of course, that was the intention of the writers...emotional roller-coaster--but it leaves me pissed off. H.R. was a real treat this year. I'm not happy he's gone.

I agree...what's up with Barry suddenly able to thrust into Savitar's suit and throw him out? If he did that when he first met him, that would have been end game. I also agree that the prison should cease to exist now that Savitar is dead.

Another thing I don't like is this Caitlin/Killer Frost hybrid. It reminded me of Sarah Walker in the Chuck finale..."I need to go find myself," which I also fond ridiculous. Just take the damned potion. I feel bad for Julian. After all the crap he's been through being Alchemy and carrying the weight of being responsible for Killer Frost and trying to have someone love him...even going to Caitlin's mom for help...he gets duped again. Handing that test tube back was the ultimate slap in the face. Come on.

The kicker was how easily Barry just walks with Mommy into the Speed Force Prison. He's breaking the heart of everyone who loves him--right there in front of him--and doesn't give it a second though. Just smiles and walks away for what could be forever...moments after mailing the Save The Date cards and watching a crying Iris as he smiles. After everything he and the team has done, they can't think of something? Cisco's mind wasn't racing to think of some possibility? Nope. Bye bye Barry. I mean, we know he'll be back, but the fact this trash was written to make us all upset is insulting.

The only real positive part of this episode for me was the return of Jay. He'll be around, which I like. (Although I don't think he would have liked H.R. very much at all.)

Question: Did Killer Frost really kill Black Flash? Is he dead?

I was super bummed H.R. died! He was also my favorite! I really adore him. I hope they will find some way to bring him back. A girl can dream, right?

yeah that bugged me too when they all just end up saying their goodbyes with no one saying anything about a plan to get Barry out or even Barry himself not even trying to convince Iris that it's not gonna be forever.

This whole show is a pre-teen weep feast, and a insult to people over the age of 18.
