Discuss Better Call Saul

It was a well directed episode with decent writing, but the ending was a little underwhelming.

If it would have ended with Kim and Jimmy, or even the Gus, Nacho scene that would have been perfect, but to go back to Chuck made it feel incomplete and anticlimactic.

Something still feels missing with the show even though the writing and editing has improved. It just doesn't "hit that note" where it feels great. It keeps lacking that "potential".

It's multiple things, but to pinpoint one exact thing, it's exactly that- too much emphasis and time spent on Chuck and Hamlin, not enough time spent on exciting stuff, or even the Gus, Hector, Nacho stuff.

I also think the show is failing to meet its potential. I think they keep filling episodes with filler montages instead of just moving the plot forward.

Now when I watch an episode I groan whenever they stray into yet another montage. Did we really really need to see another scene of Chuck obsessing? This time it's shot after shot of chuck unplugging chords followed by shot after shot of Chuck checking the meter to see if it's still moving. Yet another example of beating a dead horse.

I thought it was a great finale.

Going into BCS, my main concern was that they wouldn't harm the integrity of BB by expanding on BB characters pasts. For example, they originally considered the idea of a Saul spin-off that would be more of a comedy based show. That would have been a disaster IMO, for both BCS and BB.

So far, they seem to be accurate with the BB characters. Will see as we get more Gus in S4. Mike and Hector have been OK. Lydia's limited scenes have been interesting - except find myself more focused on seeing if her character acting fits versus the actual scene (her voice is a bit odd, as she's from Scotland). And McKean's acting's been good - especially the "You're not a real lawyer" and "the cross examination Chicanery" scenes.

Interested to see how far they continue to intertwine into BB next season. Tuco's in jail, so perhaps they'll have a scene where he meets up with Skinny Pete (they were in jail together per BB) and even Hank could show up, since we know Crazy 8 was an informant of his. And expecting the return of Hector's bell next season - Ding, Ding, Ding...

I love BCS but this season has been 8/10 (compared to 10/10 for S1/S2). Yes, 8/10 is high but the standards these guys have makes this a less successful season.

In my humble opinion, I think the reason is that they have not spent enough time with Jimmy and more time with other characters (say in particular Mike who I find rather not interesting in his private life). I found that I wanted more Jimmy & Kim and they kept giving me Mike. On the other hand, I loved that fleshed out Ignacio and how Salamanca (will) become wheelchair bound. I was really rooting for Ignacio as Salamanca is really a vile character.

As per most people here, I thought they spent far too much time with Chuck and the head of FMM (the oily snake whose name I can't recall at the moment). In short, they spent far too much time with people who were not that likeable (I like Chuck BTW).

Anyway, I hope S4 gets back to form and we see Jimmy transform fully into Saul Goodman (although I love Jimmy and not so much Saul Goodman). It obviously means that Kim has to go 'away' somehow and I always thought those two were really good together.
