Discuss Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I would have loved to have been in the room, or listening on the phone or whatever, when they asked Charlie Brill to play Arne Darvin again.

So if you know that I am not going to agree with you why do you keep coming back at these things? Do you get a kick out off attempts in futility?

I never claimed such a thing it is you who made that assessment.And Gen never posted such a message to me now you are making things up.

Example of character growth ;

Wesley from a boy desperately trying to prove himself to Picard and live up to his expectations becomes a man who dares to go against Picard (and Starfleet) when he deems Starfleet's deportation of those Indians in Journey's End to be unethical and wrong he even resigns from Starfleet for this.

I never claimed that the Federation was perfect many episodes in previous Trek shows dealt with this issue.Which is why I never liked Insurrection and consider it the worst Trek movie even worse than ST V Picard does a similar thing in regards to the Ba'ku and these were a species who weren't even a member of the Federation while those Native Americans were.Well in Insurrection it was a 300 year old MILF called Anij who Picard seemed eager to get on his joy stick.,What reason Picard had to choose for those synths is beyond me maybe he was afraid of death and wanted to live for ever so by saving the synths he would save his own 97 year old hinnie despite that Picard is wrong and the Romulans were right. Although they went to odd and unrealistic choices to prevent this (like why even make use and explore the Borg Cube at all if it was to lure Soji they could have used less haphazard methods and since the show claims that the Romulan Empire is in such disarray that they aren't able to deal with a refugee crisis it raises the question where did the Romulans get the resources from to even maintain and man a Borg Cube let alone the whole concept that the Borg are everything they fear about synths .Another thing in the whole Romulan Empire in destitude that doesn't make sense is that since the Romulans could muster over 200 ships to attack the Synth planet why didn't they use these ships to transport their refugees to more habitable planets to name but a few).In the end The Romulans and Starfleet should have destroyed the Synth planet and Synths since their existence posses and imediate and permanent threat to all biological life in the galaxy.Besides Red Letter Media in their breakdown of the TNG movies brought up the similar issue with the different Picards and why it made no sense to change the movie Picard into some action figure while the series Picard is almost the direct opposite, The fact that Stewart wrote the much reviled and often riduculed dune Buggy scene shows why Stewart should have never gotten a writing credit on Picard.

Didn't the SUPERNOVA also happen before anyone expected it to happen??? So the EVACUATIONS were also an EMERGENCY SITUATION which hadn't been planned for???

No Spock had knowledge and most of the crew of Enterprise in ST09 knew about the destruction of Romulus from Spock Prime since he told them it was the whole reason the story of ST09 exists,Kirk's father dies and why Vulcan was destroyed seems like a pretty big thing to forget don't you? and they are The Romulans.

Well the events in Picard take place in the Kelvin timeline after the events of the reboot movies.

ST09 is when an alternate timeline was created by the Romulan Nero who out of wrath against Spock went back in time to capture him and his red matter he came back too early which resulted with an encounter with the USS Kelvin (hence Kelvin Timeline)on board which James T Kirk was born and his father George served in order to prevent the majority of the ship dying George Kirk sacrificed himself by ramming the USS Kelvin into Nero's ship the Narada . The Narada is damaged and Nero is captured by the Klingons and spends like 20 years in a Klingon prison he somehow manages to escape and after capturing Spock from the future(Spock Prime Nimoy) he attacks Vulcan as revenge for Spock not being able to save Romulus from destruction (I know J.J.'s writing is silly) Nero destroys Vulcan with the red matter and Spock's mother dies and only a handfull of Vulcans survive.Kirk Kelvin timeline meets Spock Prime(original timeline Nimoy)in the aftermath of the destruction of Vulcan and explained what happened later on at the end of the movie Spock Kelvin and Spock Prime meet.So no TOS,TNG.DS9,and VOY do not take place on the same timeline

Anyhow, according to those who WRITE it THE PICARD SHOW and DISCOVERY are still also suppose to take place in the PRIME TIME LINE (the one with (TOS,TNG.DS9,and VOY and ENT).

Which makes no sense becauase prior to the release of Picard the same writer and producer said it takes place on the Kelvin timeline and why DISC doesn't fit the original Timeline has been discussed previously on the STD boards.

CBS All Access though still has the disadvantage to most of the competitors that their content is rather limited certainly compared to what Netflix and Amazon offer also most of the other streaming services don't need a more expensive subscription to watch your content free of commercials plus the streaming quality of most other services is higher CBS All Access streams in SD and 2.0 stereo sound while the competitors provide Full HD and dolby 5.1 sound(or one has to pay slightly more for that) and some (like Netflix and Disney +)even have 4k Full HD.And even price wise CBS All Access is at a disadvantage certainly now when Amazone Prime offers a month free viewing and a initial subscription fee of €2,99 per month and even when that expires and one has to pay the full €6,99 a month (comparable to Disney+ €6,99 a month )most streaming services are cheaper than CBS All Access and even the more expensive ones are preferable to CBS because of the sheer content they offer.Add to that that CBS All Access mainly is available in the US while the compition are now (or are soon becoming )available World wide.And even some inside news reports and analists have now already have announced that the streaming wars are over and the most likely candidates are Netflix,Amazon and a third party that will rule the streaming market and from the looks of things CBS All Access isn't among the likely candidates to take that third spot certainly if you compare it to the other streaming services like HBO Max,Movie Max,Disney+/Hulu or the upcoming Apple TV (even though some analists claim that Apple may already be too late to the game) .Also one has to take into account that since it's launch in 2017 CBS All Access only managed to get around 8 million subscribers in two years while Disney + has managed to get 50 million subscribers in less than 6 months.

All of the above suggests that the announcements that Viacom/CBS has planned for June will among others be about CBS All Access and them revamping it and it becoming part of a much broader streaming platform whether that is enough for Viacom/CBS to run a financial viable streaming service or a little too late time will tell.And maybe in the US they are downgrading their streaming quality but in my country Netflix still streams in Full HD Dolby 5.1 sound (I have the slightly more expensive Full HD subscription for €10.99(which I recently upgraded when I bought my HD TV) a month compared to the cheapest €9,99 a month )And considering Netflix with the exception of Picard streams all other Star Trek series I don't really need Amazon or CBS All Access which content is comparable to that of Netflix)and I am certainly not going to pay €6,99 just to watch Picard and maybe another series or two certainly if one barely has the time to watch all the self made series Netflix has to offer.If and I must underline if I was going to take another service to complement my Netflix subscription my first choice would not be CBS all Access(if it were available) or Amazon Prime (even with the discount offer).

Oh it’s that new Star Trek we’re talking about. I was thinking of the ds9 episode

It's Euros not pounds

I Have a classic movies app on my TV it's for free and has commercials and the streaming quality is not that high grade but for the silent movies that are there and other classic movies it doesn't matter since most movies are pre 1970.Also there is Popcorn Time which has movies that are usually stil playing in the cinema the quality of those vary and this service also has series it requires a free subscription and a VPN(but it's highly illegal)

I don't have Westworld and I am not going to subscribe to Amazon or whatever other streaming service just to watch one or two shows besides I am currently too busy watching Stranger Things.
