Helmet Question

I've started watching Classic Battlestar Galactica again in a VERY long time, and I have a question. The pilot's helmets don't have any kind of face shield. Anyone know whu?

If I was a actual pilot I wouldn't wear that helmet ,the lights would blind me. I loved those jackits.

lol I never noticed that. Too busy wondering why there were lights on the inside.
As for the visor question, I guess their purpose was mainly to protect their heads from impact like a race car helmet or football helmet (in fact they looked like football helmets with the jaw guard). I also thought the egyptian pharaoh look was pretty badass. Overall I think they had the coolest uniforms of any scifi show, even if they weren't very practical in space.
