I like the show for the most part. The first show and much of the first season was pretty funny at times. But the show isn't really a comedy. It is a drama about a dysfunctional family. The absentee mother has bi-polar disorder and doesn't take her meds. Frank Gallagher the father played by William H Macy is a narcissistic, substance abusing, sociopath and conman who habitually betrays his children, most of whom have serious emotional and adjustment issues. Fiona the eldest daughter tries heroically to raise her younger siblings and provide a stable home environment for them. Frank continually steals from his own family, betrays them, and abuses them. Most of the kids are badly maladjusted and emotionally immature. It is really a sad show.
