Granada Video now invites you to celebrate Coronation Street's Silver Jubilee with Ena Sharples, Elsie Tanner, Annie Walker, and many other known and loved residents of the street. Alice Hughes, born in Coronation Street in 1952, left for a new life in Australia. Now she returns for a fleeting visit with her daughter and joins Betty Turpin, Hilda Ogden, and Ken and Deirdre Barlow, in their reminiscences of The Jubilee Years.

Ken faces troubles on the work front when Nick employs an ally to work full-time in the office, while Vera confronts Amy about her kleptomania. Who will be the first to break in this mother-daughter battle of wills? The loss of the baby is a shock to Bet and Alec, but is he just putting on a brave face?

Ken gets some reassurance from Fiona about her working in the office, and Shirley makes a decision to move out of her mother's house. Bet is upset over the loss of the baby, but the tragedy helps to bring here and the Gilroy's closer together. Meanwhile Curly decides to ask Alf if he can rent the flat above the shop, Sally gets an uncomfortable surprise from her sister Gina.

With Gina moved into number 13, Sally gets annoyed with the way she flirts with Kevin. Curly decides to stay at Emily's, as Shirley wants to move into the flat, but gets into trouble with Emily. While Ken is forced to tell Fiona off over her bullying tactics.

The suspicions grow that Alf might be a racist after he offers the flat to Curly instead of Shirley. And the problems continue for Sally when she is introduced to Gina's new boyfriend, Billy, who is on probation - will he be a bad influence.

Now that the Barlows are a two-car family, Deirdre considers having driving lessons. Emily and Alf are at war over the dispute about the flat, but Shirley comes up with a novel - if shocking - answer to the dilemma.

Shirley's suggestion that she and Curly move into the flat together pleases him - but how will Alf and Emily react? Billy asks Brian for a job, but Kevin doesn't want him there because that means Gina will want to continue to stay at Number 13. Alan is getting bored with running the video library so he decides to work fitting burglar alarms with Dave Craig.

Alf makes it clear that, like Emily, he disapproves of Curly and Shirley living 'in sin' together, but Curly decides to get his double bed from his parents' house. Rita is finding Alan's secretive nature difficult to cope with, and Ivy stars to wonder what Audrey is really doing in Canada.

Gina gets bored while Billy is at work on the Bank Holiday, and encourages Martin to pay her a visit - and Sally almost finds out. And it's the day for moving in together for Shirley and Curly, and he's going to need some dutch courage.

Martin and Gina spend another day together at Number 13, but there's trouble in store when Billy comes round to see her. Alan gets a surprise when he asks Dave if they can become partners in the firm, Billy admits that he is banned from driving to Brian, and Curly gets shocked when his parents come to visit - and meet his new girlfriend for the first time.

Even though Dave has turned him down for partnership, Alan asks Rita to lend him £6,000, but she wants to know more about the business. Shirley celebrates her birthday and tells Curly that she's happy with him. Alf is missing Audrey and feels that she doesn't love him.

Alf oversleeps after a heavy drinking session and fails to open the shop on time. Alan spends the £6,000 on a new car and Curly has to try to win over Shirley's mum. Rita cooks Alf a meal and then is surprised that he has a secret of his own to tell.

Curly's mother writes him a letter disowning him because he is living with a black girl, so he goes to see her in Crewe. A bunch of roses arrives for Gloria, but who are they from and what does he want? Rita and Alan argue over the car and Alf still can't contact Audrey in Canada.

The fallout from Mike Baldwin's arrest for drink driving begins and Vera begins to spread the 'good' news. Rita's investigation into the burglar alarm business has puzzling consequences and Alf gets some good news at last.

Alan's lies have caught up with him and Rita feels that she cannot trust him anymore. Audrey returns home to find that Alf isn't happy about her having gone to Canada and Gail demands to know all about her half-brother. Meanwhile, Alec advertises for a new cleaner for the Rovers.

Audrey can't stop talking about Stephen and Alf loses his temper. Bet forces Alec to apologise to Ken for barring him from the pub. Meanwhile, Mike has to face up to his drink driving and accept the sentence he receives.

Sandra Stubbs answers Alec's advertisement for a cleaner, while Mike overhears Vera laughing about his conviction and gets annoyed about the quality of some recent orders. Mike decides someone will have to be sacked to set an example for the others and Alan talks Rita into letting him use the Yard for his business.

Mike makes an example of Vera, believing her to have set him up when he was drinking and driving. Alan pesters Rita into giving him £1,000 for equipment and offers Martin a job. Ida, after much thought decides that she has a confession to make.

Ivy tells Mike that Vera is innocent, but can't tell him that Ida told the police. Percy has some bad news from the Council and Alf tells Audrey about his jealousy.

Now that Ida has confessed to Mike, Vera asks for her old job back, but still angry about the situation, Mike refuses. When threatened with an industrial tribunal, he proves to Vera that she hasn't got a leg to stand on by showing Vera, her discipline file. Both Audrey and Alf get a shock when she gets a massive credit card bill and his card is refused in a shop. Deirdre decides to help Percy not that he is retired and having to move to a new flat.

Alan talks Alec into having a burglar alarm fitted at the pub, while Don offers to decorate Ivy's house. Percy is increasingly worried about having to move out of the Centre and decides to make a dramatic stand.

With the new flat not going to be ready for two months, Percy has decided to move in with Emily, but what will Emily think of that? Alec gets a better quote for an alarm system than Alan's and Don begins redecorating Number 5. Ivy tells Don that he has helped her to live her life again and in return Don has a question for her.

Wendy takes Ken in. Alf and Jim make up as the twins try out a JCB on the deserted building site, but it goes out of control and crashes into the shop, smashing the window.

Alec decides to contact his ex-wife, and gets Sandra's address from Joyce. Wendy helps Ken get the Recorder out and Tracy is upset to see them together. Sally arranges a meeting between Jenny and Rita but Jenny refuses to talk to Rita. Don finds life is not so great when his taxi is stolen while he is in the betting shop.

Alec discovers Sandra lives in massive Cheshire house and when he meets her husband Tim and his grand-daughter Victoria, Sandra is shocked to see him. Bet is surprised to find out that they are invited to Sandra's birthday party. The police find Don's cab but decide to keep it, but Don discovers that the cab was involved in a hit and run. Finally, Wendy secures the Council ads from the Gazette.

Bet is worried about meeting Sandra, but Alec assures Bet that he loves her. Ted Lucas, editor of the Gazette offers to buy the Recorder, but Ken refuses to sell, which please Wendy. Deirdre tells Ken she'll settle for the house. He pleads with her to accept maintenance and if it couldn't get any worse Tracy tells Ken that she hates him and flies at him. Ivy is annoyed that Don was in a Betting shop when the cab was stolen.

Bet and Alec get dressed up for Sandra's party only to find it's a casual affair. Bet is annoyed at being called grandma. Bet overhears Sandra telling Tim, she doesn't want to have Alec about the place. Don is told he can collect his car, don feels the police think he was involved in the hit-and-run. Mike tells Deirdre he is sorry to hear about her problems with Ken and offers is support. Ken meanwhile, is advised by his accountant to sell the Recorder.

Alec discovers Sandra is too busy to talk to him. Bet finding it hard, tells Alec that Sandra doesn't want to know him, but he doesn't believe her. Don sees one of the cab thieves so he begins to chase the youth, but loses him. However, Don decides to wait in his cab for the youth to return.

Don lies in wait outside a block of flats for Joe Egerton the lad who stole his taxi. He arrives with two friends and a scuffle breaks out, however, when the police arrive Joe accuses Don of assaulting him. Ivy is worried when Don fails to arrive home. Ken and Wendy argue when explains to her that he will have to sell his paper to pay Deirdre off. He is embarrassed when he arrives at home to discover that Deirdre has changed the locks and he can't get in. Eddie asks Tina to go to France with him. Alec phones his daughter and asks her and the family round to dinner. Mike's accountant tell shim that he'll have to start up the business again from scratch if he wants to make money.

Alec plans a big meal for Sandra and Time, but Sandra tells Alec she wants him out of her life and he is heartbroken. Joe confesses to stealing the cab, but Don's assault charge still holds and Mike invites Alma to move in.

Alma stuns her friends by announcing she is moving in with Mike and then does just that. Bet visits Sandra to tell her that Alec is really upset, but Sandra refuses to listen to her. Alec then accuses Bet of meddling in his affairs and Eddie tells Tina the French trip is off as he has to look after Jamie.

Sandra apologies to Alec for her behaviour. She tells him he can keep in touch with them, especially Victoria who likes him. Mike asks Peter Ingram for any work he can take off his hands. He agrees to make up some travel bags for him, but Alma worries about Mike's plans for the travel bags. Sally takes Jamie in so Tina and Eddie can go away, but Tina is alarmed to find out that their romantic get away is actual fact a football trip they're going on.

Sally and Kevin like looking after Jamie. Alf gives her the day off to look after him when he cries I the shop. Sally is upset when a woman moves Jamie whilst she is hopping as a dog upsets him. Mike starts making the bags in his flat. He hires machines from Ingrams to make up the samples. He wins the order and tells Alma he has to make another, 1,000 and Jim prepares to return to the Army.

Mike's machining interferes with his neighbour's appliances. Mike asks Ivy to be an out-worker for him, but Don orders him out of the house. Josie reveals she is working for Mike as he told her that Ivy was also on board and the Residents Association threatens Mike with legal action. Tina returns alone and takes Jamie back. Tina reveals Eddie is in a French jail for being a football hooligan. Bet takes Tina and Jamie in as Alec invites Victoria over.

Alma has enough of being a machinist and Josie refuses to work for Mike anymore. However, they agree to work for Mike for double the money, especially since he is still making a big profit and Victoria is touched to see Alec with Jamie.

After receiving a postcard, Victor turns up at the Kabin to make arrangements to meet Mavis. Ingram discovers Mike doesn't have a factory anymore and Don tells him about the out-workers. Ingram is amused to see Mike at a machine, but Mike assures him the order will be completed on time. Mike asks Alma to lend him some money to pay his out-workers. Meanwhile, Alec discovers the hooligans have been released from jail.

Derek goes for an interview, selling beds and doesn't get the job. Meanwhile, Mavis goes behind his back to meet Victor. Victor in turn, offers Derek - via Mavis - a job at his recycled paper business, but Derek refuses. Liz reminds Jim that he promised to leave the army, but Jim announces his cold pay Johnny Johns is coming to stay. Ivy completes the order and swears not to work for Mike again. Mike lands another order for the travel bags and Eddie returns.

Don encourages Ivy to form a workers co-operative, undercutting Mike. While taking Don's advice Ivy manages to get Marg, Josie and Emily to join up and Ingram gives the co-op the order for1,000 bags. Audrey refuses to let Alf buy one of the new houses - she wants to move away from the street. Johnny arrives a No. 11 and tells Jim he is going after the recruitment job.

Jim resigns himself to losing the job to Johnny. Liz tells one time lover Johnny about Jim wanting the job and how she doesn't want him to have it, so Johnny gives it up. Mike discovers his travel bag order has been cancelled. Mike is outraged to discover his workers have undercut him. Rita feels she would like to move out of No. 7 as it's full of bad memories. Rita decides to buy the shop and flat opposite Alf and Derek is taken on by Victor.

Derek discovers he has to be warehouse boy as well as sales rep and is humiliated by this new position. Liz is despondent that Johnny has given the job up in favour of Jim. Johnny warns Jim as he is leaving, that Liz will leave him if he stays in the army. Jim tells Liz he is leaving the army for good. Maurice starts moving furniture into No. 6 and Audrey thinks it's for his mistress. Mike undercuts Ingram and take the bag order from the travel company.

Derek is agitated about moving out of the Kabin flat as Rita is selling up. Victor then uses Derek as a chauffeur. Derek is humiliated when Victor gives Mavis a lift. Maurice tells Audrey the new house is for his daughter who has just wed. Des and Steph Barnes move into No. 6, rowing over his drunkenness. Ingram tells Ivy the order has been cancelled and Mike tells Alma he wants her flat as a machine room.

Mavis receives a Valentine's card. Mavis is shocked when Derek tells here he didn't send the card. Victor is embarrassed to discover Derek knows he sent the card to Mavis. Mike advertises for workers, he takes Josie on, but Gail is annoyed by the way Mike has taken over the café flat. Des and Steph go on their honeymoon to Majorca. Martin get a job as a porter in Weatherfield General and Felicity Khan tells Rita she is worried about Jenny's state of mind.

The café customers complain about the dust and noise. Rita discovers Jenny is locked in her room. Rita persuades Jenny to open the door, and when she does she breaks down and her and Rita make-up. Alf and Audrey go house hunting. Alf secures the house on Grassmere Drive for £3,000 less than the asking price. Victor leaves Derek to take possession of a guard dog while he has tea with Mavis. Derek is trapped by the alsatian. When he frees himself he tells Mavis that Victor is trying to seduce her and Eddie worries that Jamie's mother Maria is after him.

Alma spends the day supervising the machinists and Gail is harassed with martin at the hospital and Alma in the machine room. Gail threatens to sell out of the café unless Alma finds help at the café. Flick get no response from Jenny and Rita goes off to see Jenny. Victor takes Mavis to lunch whilst Derek is working, but Derek finds out about Mavis's lunch with Victor.

Derek tries to interest Bettabuys in PPP products to no avail and to top it all off Victor assigns Derek to an overnight job in Bedford. Jenny tells Rita she and Flick are moving out of halls. Rita offers jenny and Flick the tenancy on No. 7 when she moves and they agree. Jack kids Alf that open-all-hours grocer Patel is buying the shop opposite the Rovers. Alf tells Audrey they can't move and will have to open later to compete with Patel. Marie's brother Carl threatens Eddie unless Marie gets Jamie back and the Barnes return from honeymoon.

Derek goes to Bedford. Audrey learns from Maurice Jones that he has not sold the shop to anyone. Derek tries to contact Mavis or Victor by phone and when he fails he decides to return to Weatherfield. Audrey discovers that Jack was lying and makes him apologise to Alf. Tina hides Jamie Ramsden at the Rovers. A furious Derek arrives home to find Victor massaging Mavis's foot trying to cure a headache.

Derek throws Victor out. He tells Mavis wants a divorce. Rita assures Derek Mavis was being nanve and is not unfaithful. Derek tells Mavis he knows she is an innocent victim and that he is going to resign from his job. Marie turns up and tells Eddie she wants Jamie. Marie hears a baby crying in the Rovers and Tina says it' hers. Finally Audrey prepares a special 'leaving' flat meal.

Derek confronts Victor and Victor confesses his love for Mavis. Victor promises never to see Mavis again and gets drunk with Derek on home-made wine. Derek arrives home with the news that he now runs PPP as Victor has left the area to Darlington. Marie discovers Tina doesn't have a baby, but Bet lets Marie see Jamie. Marie pleads with Eddie to let her have Jamie and also threatens him with a solicitor. Eddie proposes to Tina in order to provide a good home for Jamie and Tina accepts. The Health and Safety inspector arrive to check Mike's factory and is told that he will have to close the factory. Ken asks Deirdre if he can see Tracy.

Mike accuses Percy and Don of reporting him, but Gail steps forward and admits that she was the one who reported Mike. Mike tells Alma that he is finished in the Rag trade and Alma blames Gail for sticking her nose in. Tracy agrees to go out with Ken, but Deirdre drags Tracy away from Ken when she sees Wendy in the car. Tracy tells Deirdre she's going to see Ken whether she likes it or not. Tina shows off her engagement ring. Marie tells her she had post natal depression and wants her baby back, even if it means going to court. Alf and Audrey celebrate their move from the street.

Alec is shocked to discover that he and Bet are paying for Tina's reception. Tracy visits Wendy and decides that she likes her, but Deirdre is angry with Tracy for going to see her. Alma slags Gail off and threatens to buy her out. Marie asks Eddie to be reasonable and Mike is offered a job by Ingram - as a sales rep.

Tina buys her wedding dress. Deirdre, Emily, Bet, Vera, Sally, Natalie (Tina's flatmate), Betty, Gail, Liz and Ivy from Tina's hen party in the Rovers. Eddie arrives during the party to tell Tina that he can't marry her as he's marrying Marie. Alma spreads it about hat Mike is going to be Ingram's partner. Mike has to sign a contract swearing not to use Ingram's contacts for five years and Vera is certain Tina is pregnant.

Alf infers Deirdre is slacking on the Council, but she still plans to go on Council business to Harrogate. She arranges for Tracy to be looked after by Emily. Tina tells Eddie he's a louse and she's better off without him and finally breaks down. Tina bounces back by cutting her wedding cake in the Rovers. Ivy asks Mike for a job and he snubs her. Mike changes his mind and tells Ivy he'll keep his eyes open. Don is amazed that Ivy asked him for a job.

Deirdre is suspicious of Tracy's every move. Deirdre agrees to discuss access with Ken when she comes back from Harrogate. Phyllis wins a trip for two to Holland at bingo. Percy slips on her shopping when her bag splits and is taken to Hospital. Sally arranges a night out with the Barnes' to Kevin's annoyance. However, Kevin is surprised by the fact he likes the Barnes'. Don discovers Mike is Ingram's sales rep and announces it to everyone in the Rovers. Tina goes to Cyprus.

Percy, with broken ankle, takes charge of the ward. While Deirdre is in Harrogate, Emily discovers Tracy on the phone to Wendy, which causes her to run away. Ivy wants a job and Don receives his court summons. Des asks Kevin to place a £500 bet on a horse, but when Sally finds out she is cross about the bet until Kevin produces his winnings of £100.

Tracy arives on Wendy's doorstep and Ken decides she can stay the night while Deirdre is away. Deirdre is furious when Emily phones to tell her and she decides to break off her trip to come home. When Deirdre arrives at Wendy's to take Tracy home, she refuses to leave and Deirdre goes away alone. Percy is discharged early from hospital and Emily is alarmed to find he might need personal chores doing. The Barnes have a good night out with the Webster's and Steph is faster than her hubby's car.

Steph thinks Kevin fancies her and starts to flirt with him for a joke. She even goes so far as to squeeze his thing in the Rovers. Tracy tells Ken she wants him to come home. Ken then brings Tracy home, to Deirdre's delight and Percy sets his bedroom up in the front room.

The McDonalds worry about Steve's whereabouts. Liz fears that the gang have got him and want the Police brought in. Alma is upset to find Ken has checked out of the hotel. Liz grows hysterical when Jim refuses to contact the Police and suffers stomach pains. Andy calls for an ambulance. Raquel is upset when Curly doesn't seem pleased to see her. Bet guesses that Vicky is at the Ardens' house. She finds Steve and her asleep at the house. They swear they didn't get up to anything. The ambulance takes twenty-five minutes to arrive for Liz. Raquel breaks down and tells Curly that she's finished with modelling and is homeless. Curly comforts her. Vicky tells Bet she knows she's been having an affair with Des Foster. Steve is appalled to discover he's caused Liz to go into premature labour. Bet tells Vicky that she wanted to make Alec jealous with Des but it backfired. She swears she wasn't unfaithful and Vicky believes her.

Andy makes Steve realise that he's been childish and selfish. Liz knows Katherine is dead before the doctor tells her. Liz tries to cry but can't manage it. Jim tells the twins that their sister is dead. Steve decides to got go to the police and tell them all he knows about the stolen radios. Jim tells him he should have sorted his priorities sooner. Deirdre is furious to discover that Mike has ruined Ken and Alma's relationship and Alma vows never to be humiliated again. Ken apologies to Alma. She tells him she doesn't care how he feels. He says he could have forgiven her for sleeping with anyone but Mike. She realises that his relationship with Mike was important to him than his relationship with her. Des tells Raquel she can move into his spare room.

Jack wants to take Raquel in a lodger,but Vera tells Jack she's not having Raquel living with them. Curly and Angieare put out that Des has offered Raquel a room. Curly accused Des of wantinghis wicked way with Raquel, not content with stealing Angie. Raquel witnessestheir row and Raquel moves in at No. 6 with Des. The nurses give Liz photographof Katherine for her to keep. It moves Jim to tears and he agrees not to takeout his anger on Steve. Bet gets jack to move Alec's wardrobe back into herroom and asks Vicky not to tell Alec about Des. Jim gets the twins to fill inthe extension trenches and Emily stores stock from the charity shop at No. 3.

Phyllis is astounded to find Raquel living with Des and Angie tells Raquel she's a calculating little cow and tells her she's wrecking her relationship with Des. Raquel assures Curly that she is not after Des. She asks him to defend her from Angie's wrath but he accuses her of stringing him along. Des tells Raquel he was never serious about Angie. He makes overtures toward her but she tells him she just wants a friendship with him. She agrees to pay him £20 a week. Jim brings Liz home from the hospital. Steve breaks down and has to be comforted by Liz. She refuses to let Steve blame himself, feeling it washerfault that Katherine died. Jim registers Katherine's birth and death. Alec returns home and Bet gives him a warm welcome, but Vicky is annoyed when Bet insists she return to school at the right time, as she wants to see more of Alec. Percy and Emily transfer all the shop stock to another shop and Deirdre and Ken receive their divorce papers.

Steve can't bring himself to attend Katherine's funeral and disappears.Jim is furious. Liz, Jim and Andy bury Katherine. Liz is relieved that now they can begin to get on with their lives. Raquel is aware that her presence in the house is causing Des problemsas he finds her desirable. Angie overhears Phyllis talking about the way Raquel shows off her body around the house. Angie pours a pint over Des' head when he boasts women fall at his feet. Alec reprimands her so she resigns. Des and Raquel decide they don't care what people think about them and start kissing.Vicky tells Alec Bet really missed him and he should make it up t her. Bet is touched when Vicky kisses her before returning to school.

Bet tries to tell Alec about Des but he is too busy to listen.When Alec is insistent on employing Des, Bet tells him about her relationship with Des and Alec thinks she's been unfaithful. Bet is forced to show Alec the bruises Des gave her. Alec is stunned and believes that she had to defend herself. He wants to sort Des out but Bet begs him to leave it alone as she wants to forget it all. Sally tires to cheer Liz up but ends up crying over Katie's picture. Liz is touched when Jim buys her a frame for Katie's picture. He makes arrangements for a plaque at the crematorium. Bettabuys is short staffed. Reg wants to take Raquel on but Curly wants Angie to have the job. Des gets Alec to employ Raquel as a barmaid at the Rovers but she isn't too keen. Gail hears that a fast food take-away is going to open in the charity shop and worries about the competition.

Alma offers Gail the chance to buy her out but Gail has no money. Gail tells Mike he's tearing Alma apart. She begs him to leave Alma alone. She tells shim Alma is planning to sell up and asks him to stop her by telling her he will leave her alone. He says he can't leave her alone as he loves her. Gail tells Alma she can't let Mike drive her away from all her friends. Alma just wants to get as far away from Mike as possible. After contacting a private detective,Vera visits Detective Hastings and asks him to track down Andrea Clayton and her child, but she doesn't want Jack to know. Deirdre agrees to have a drink with Ken, as he's so lonely. Ken tells Deirdre about Alma sleeping with Mike. She feels sorry for both of them. Raquel stars work at the Rovers and Angie is furious that Raquel as taken her job. She tells her she can have the shoes off her feet as well and throws them at her.

Kevin asks Mike to let him handle Halliwell's contract when it comes up for renewal. Mike tells him he'll give him a bonus is he can get more money out of Halliwell. Kevin asks Halliwell to pay 10% more for a servicing contract. Halliwell tells him he'll give the firm's contract if Kevin giveshim a £1,000 backhanded. Kevin is stunned. Hastings finds out the Claytons moved to Accrington and then Edinburgh, so Vera gives him £100 to drive to Scotland. Deirdre is upset to hear Alma is leaving town to get away from Mike. Angie goes for an interview for a waitressing job at Romana's and is hired. She thanks Alec for sacking her. Gail warns Sally that their childminding arrangement may fall through if she has to sell the business and Raquel is embarrassed when Phyllis finds her earring in Des' bed.

Kevin can't believe Halliwell's cheek and tells Mike about the backhander. Mike tells him he wants him to deal with it as he says he can run the garage. Mike tells Kevin the best way to keep the contract is to put £25 on every service carried out for Halliwell's firm to pay the £1,000. Kevin doesn't like the deal as it is dishonest. Sally urges Kevin to stand by his conscience,but Kevin realises he's going to have to go along with Mike. After dismissing Derek's proposal, he is surprise at the report once he looks it over. He agrees that the company needs streamlining and redundancies. Derek is alarmed when Victor tells him he can see from the report that the company needs only one manager and that he has made himself redundant.

Alma calls in an estate agent. Gail is bitter that she has to sell up as well. Mike gives Alma the lease to the cafe to keep her in Weatherfield and she is stunned. Derek starts looking for a job. He is pleased that Victor is now out of his life for good, but soon Derek doesn't know what to do with himself. Derek feels that he's achieved nothing in his life. He begs Mavis to ask Victor for his job back. Mike gives Kevin £1,000 to give to Halliwell, but is disgusted with himself when he gives Halliwell the money. Steve is scared that he's going to Borstal but tells Liz he wants to be severely punished. Jack grows suspicious as Vera is working late and has no money. He begins to suspect that Vera has a lover and does some investigating of his own.

The McDonalds go to the Magistrates Court. Steve is charged with handling stolen good and pleads guilty. The magistrates fine Steve £100. He has to pay it off at £5 a week. Jim is furious to discover the case against the rest of the gang has been dropped. Gail is thrilled that Mike is no longer the landlord. Alma feels that it doesn't change anything - she is still moving on. Gail accuses Alma of not caring what happens to her or the cafe. Jack overhears Vera making arrangements to meet Hastings. Jack follows Vera to a pub where she meets Hastings. Jack warns Hastings off Vera so she has to introduce them. Hastings tells Vera the Claytons have moved to Exeter. Jack refuses to let Vera give Hastings anymore money thinking he's a conman.

Kevin realises he'll lose his job if he goes to the police and feels that Mike will deny any knowledge of the bribes if he tells the police. Derek plans to claim unfair dismissal, exposing Victor's harassment through lustful pursuits of Mavis. Mavis doesn't want to tell Derek that Victor spurned her, but she tells Derek she doesn't want their marriage put on public display. She persuades Derek that their marriage is worth more than Victor's money. Vera finds herself looking at all little boys, wondering if they're Paul. Alma can't understand Mike's motives in giving her the lease. Mike tells Alma he gave her the lease as he love her and asks her to marry him.

Sally confides in Gail about Kevin's trouble with Mike. Alma tells Gail and Audrey that mike has proposed. The both worry that he'll weaken her into accepting. Alma tells Mike that she can never love him again. To put her off Mike, Gail tells her about the way he's turned Kevin into a thief. Mike goes down on one knee and begs Alma to marry him. She tells him he hasn't changed at all; the Webster's story has made her see him for what he is. PPP demand Derek returns his company car, or buy it for £5,000. Derek wants to cash in the insurance policies to buy the car. Raquel gets a job modelling slippers but can't because her feet are too big.

Mavis makes Derek see they can't afford a car, but Derek tells Mavis they should persuade Rita to retire and take over the Kabin together.Mike reminds Kevin that he's the one that committed fraud and tell him to keep Sally's mouth shut. Terry visits the Duckworth's having heard they tried to track down Andrea. He asks Vera to forget all about the Claytons as he's got a new girlfriend and doesn't want her to know his past. He agrees to bring Lisa visiting. Vera warns Jack not to mention Terry's past when Lisa comes to visit. Ken's back goes again whilst teaching and Reg tries to get Rita to go out with him, but she tries to ignore him. Raquel's agency goes bust, owing her £500.She is upset, as she can't pay her way.

Derek is enthusiastic about buying the Kabin from Rita. However, Mavis isn't sure she'll want to sell, so to help the situation along Mavis and Derek throw a dinner party for Rita. Mavis and Derek try to broach the subject of retirement to Rita; she shocks them by telling them they should retire. Rita is outraged at Derek's suggestion of his buying the Kabin. Alma receives the cafe valuation and is upset, as it is so low. She realises that after buying Gail out and the solicitors fees she'll have nothing left. She suggests to Gail that she could move out and leave Gail to run the business. Gail is furious that Alma would let her look after the place single-handed. Kevin buys a double buggy for Sally, which thrills her and Ken refuses to let his back stop him from teaching.

Audrey finds Ken in his bed unable to move with his back and a pain in his leg. Ken is embarrassed, as he has no clothes on, but Deirdre helps him get dressed, where he is taken to hospital in an ambulance. Mavis and Derek apologise to Rita, which she enjoys because she knows she is in control of the Wiltons. Although through it all Rita begins to feel wary about he future. Terry brings Lisa to tea to meet his parents. Vera tries hard to impress Lisa and puts Jack on his best behaviour. Terry tries to keep Lisa away form everyone but Vera drags them to the Rovers. Vera guesses that Lisa is pregnant and when Lisa confirms it Vera is delighted. Martin tells Alma that Mike has won if she leaves town. He makes her see that Mike will track her down wherever she goes.He advises her to stay with her mates and fight Mike. She realises he's rightand tells Gail she's staying.

Vera tells Terry she's pleased for him about Lisa's baby. Jack tells him he's stupid and Lisa has set him up. Derek rings an old contact only to find he's been made redundant. Terry goes for Jack in the Rovers when Jack tells him Lisa will take his kid away like Andrea did. They fight and have to be separated by Alec. Jack advises Terry to ditch Lisa before she ditches him. Tracy persuades Deirdre to visit Ken in hospital. Terry and Lisa return to Blackpool. Vera tells Jack he's a louse for trying to put Terry off Lisa. Jack maintains he was protecting him. Ken is told by Doctor Wakeman that they need to take tests on his leg and he has to stay in hospital.

Alec gets a postcard from Cherie Watkins in Antigua. Bet demands to know who she is. Alec tells her that Cherie is related to a director of the shipping company and he tried to impress her. Bet is annoyed as Cherie thanks Alec for a wonderful time. Derek returns his car to Pendlebury Paper Products. Alec swears to Bet that he was not unfaithful. Ken has a mylogram. Alma visits him in hospital. He tells her that he's pleased she's not selling the cafe anymore. Whilst studying at the library, Andy meets Paula Maxwell. They are attracted to each other. Bet believes that Alec was faithful and rips up Cherie's postcard. Tracy tells Deirdre that they should take Ken in when he's discharged.

Ken is told he won't have to have an operation but will have to stay in bed for a while. Doctor Quinn refuses to discharge him unless he has someone to look after him at home. Emily suggests that he sleeps in her front room. Mavis begins to fear that they could lose the house if Derek doesn't find another job. Bet talks to Cherie Watkins when she phones up. She is furious when Cherie thinks that she is Alec's mother, as he told her that he was a widower. Bet attacks Alec with her handbag for telling Cherie she was dead. Tracy and Steve send bogus Valentine cards out. Andy is smitten with Paula Maxwell and puts a Valentine card in her bag. Derek realises that he's going to have to ask Angela Hawthorne for a job. Bet tells Alec that as his mother, she's invited Cherie to tea. Deirdre tells Ken that he can't expect Emily to look after him so he'd better come to her and Tracy.

Steve receives a Valentine from Vicky in Lancaster. Deirdre sets up a bed in the living room for Ken. Alf is sent a Valentine from 'Britannia' (Steve and Tracy). Audrey pretends to be furious and consoles herself by going shopping.

The Kabin is broken into at 4am. Don sees the robbers and chases them in his cab. Mavis recognises the alarm and rushes to the Kabin to check on Rita whilst Derek phones the police.

Steve tries to find out who Andy is going out with. Jack asks Don to get him a job pall bearing. Deirdre sets Percy and Phyllis up to vist Ken to stop him getting too cosy.

Jack interrogates Ken for details of his bad back for future reference. Ken and Deirdre open their decree absolutes together. They tell Tracy they are now officially divorced. Steve follows Andy when he meets Paula.

Steve is fed up that he has to pay £20 a week rent whilst Andy lives at home free. Tracy is sick of her parent's civilised attitude towards the divorce. Derek spends his day cooking for Ted Sullivan

Rita has a security roller fitted on the Kabin door. Mavis tells Rita it's obvious that Ted fancies her. Raquel gets a job demonstrating microwave popcorn. She asks Jack to make up an excuse for her to tell Alec.

Alec tells Bet that he will only take Liz back if they sack Betty. He tells Liz that he can't re-employ her as the brewery have instructed him to have young bar staff. She is furious. Tracy is thrilled when Mark Jackson asks to listen to some of her tapes. Andy is taken on at Bettabuy, sweeping up. Jim shouts at Alec, accusing him of humiliating Liz. Alec snaps and calls Jim a stupid Irishman. Jim insults Raquel causing Des to have a go at him. Alec throws Jim out of the Rovers.

Rita is woken at 5.00am by The Kabin alarm going off. She calls the Police. Reg and Martin come to her aid but the intruders have left with cigarettes after smashing one of the windows. Martin gets stuck in a hospital lift with an elderly visitor, Mrs Oaks. She gets claustrophobic and collapses. He loosens her clothing and gives her mouth-to-mouth. When they are rescued she is rushed to Coronary Care. Mark Jackson listens to Tracy's tapes in her room. Andy starts at Bettabuy, on trolley patrol. Brendan Scott, as Area Manager, calls on Reg and tells him that he will be getting a graduate, Vanessa Morgan, to train in management. Tracy is furious when Ken sends Mark off after half an hour. Deirdre is annoyed that he has such a low opinion of Tracy and reminds him that he has no say in what goes on in her house. Martin is proud when he is told that he saved Mrs Oaks's life. Rita is frightened to be on her own at night.

Jack takes the day off from the Rovers, with his back, to pallbear. Vanessa Morgan starts at Bettabuy as management trainee. Reg puts Curly in charge of her. Ted tries to bring Rita out of herself. Jack is horrified to see Alec at the funeral. He tries to hide from him but is spotted. He escapes through the graveyard. Olive Oaks thanks Martin for saving her life. Sister Walker suggests that he trains as a nurse. Jack runs home from St. Mary's, Alec follows him and sacks him when his muddy shoes prove his guilt. Jack begs for his job back and Alec, faced with having to do cellar work himself, agrees to take him back. Reg thinks Vanessa is a spy for Brendan, possibly even his girlfriend. Ted takes Rita for a meal. He tells her that he'd like a companion to spend his retirement with.

Martin is keen to train to be a nurse. Jack runs round at the Rovers to please Alec. Bet is livid that Raquel can get away with anything at the Rovers whilst Jack is always got at. Ken decides to move back to the flat as he feels unwelcome at No.1. Brendan tells Curly that Vanessa is the daughter of Lord Walter Morgan, Chairman of Bettabuy. Curly reacts by giving Vanessa the best jobs. Liz gets a job behind the bar at the Legion, getting 80p an hour more than at the Rovers. Reg is shocked to find Vanessa working in a superior position and demands she mops out the storeroom. Curly is annoyed and decides not to tell Reg who Vanessa is. Martin is encouraged to start nursing training. Gail feels that they won't cope if he has to take a cut in wages. Mr Thorpe sacks Jack for running off from the funeral. Raquel gets tired of Bet giving her cold looks and threatens to resign but Alec refuses to let her. Bet is sick of Alec undermining her authority.

Ken returns to work. Curly tries to make Vanessa Morgan's life as easy as possible. She fears that he's falling in love with her. Raquel's friend Lorraine Kinsey tells her that a flat has become free in her house. She offers it to Raquel but she's happy with Des. Curly discovers Reg kept a managerial appointment in Chesterfield from him. Reg is adamant that he acted in Curly's best interests. Curly is furious. Raquel is upset when Des flirts with Lorraine. Reg is annoyed by Vanessa's presence and tries to make life difficult for her. Ted tells Rita that he's thinking of living in Florida. She is pleased when he kisses her.
