David continues to help Matthew hide out. Trying to forget her recent ordeal, Victoria plans a trip to Bangor. Victoria visits the Old House, where she finds herself helpless in Matthew's clutches.

As the search continues, Burke and Roger exchange threats. Caroyln's relationship with Burke comes under fire. Elizabeth vows to face Burke's latest assault head on. Carolyn and Joe end their relationship.

Victoria begs Matthew to let her go. Mrs Johnson suspects Victoria has fallen foul of Matthew. When David visits the Old House with supplies, he is disarmed to hear Victoria's cries coming from the secret room.

Matthew begins to doubt David's loyalty. David is overcome with pangs of conscience for helping Matthew evade capture, which are heightened when he learns the consequences of aiding a criminal.

David discovers that Matthew is holding Victoria prisoner. A mysterious woman arrives at the Collinsport Inn and begins to probe Maggie for information on the Collins family.

David escapes from the clutches of Matthew, leaving Victoria behind. Sam Evans is worried when Maggie tells him about the woman who spoke with her at the Inn.

Sam reveals to Roger that the stranger who spoke to Maggie was Roger's estranged wife Laura, who has returned to town. Elsewhere, Laura wastes no time in making her presence felt.

Laura visits Collinwood and reveals to Roger and Elizabeth that she has intends to gain legal custody of David. Meanwhile, David has a nightmare about his mother.

Burke and Laura meet and discuss their respective agendas against the residents of Collinwood. Meanwhile, Sam finds himself compelled to continue working on the painting.

Elizabeth struggles to comfort David, who hears his mother calling to him in his sleep. While attempts are made to reintroduce the boy to his mother, it is agreed that Laura will live in Matthew's empty cottage.

Roger locks horns with Richard Garner, as he attempts to speed up divorce proceedings against Laura. Sam continues to be troubled by his compulsion to paint the fire portrait.

Sam's painting is now almost complete, depicting Laura surrounded by flames. Meanwhile, Roger learns that the body from the Phoenix apartment has been positively identified as Laura.

The sheriff questions Laura about the body, but can offer no explanation for the mistake in identity. Roger goes to Laura's cottage with a gun and discovers her and Burke there together.

Victoria makes an effort to reunite David and Laura, in spite of him not believing that Laura is his mother. Later, Laura tells David the story of a mythical bird, the phoenix which is reborn anew through fire.

Victoria receives the mysterious painting of Laura from Sam and passes it onto David. That night, the painting gives David a terrible nightmare vision of his mother calling to him.

Laura is outraged when she learns of Sam's painting. Later, as Sam sleeps in the living room of his cottage, Laura stares into her fireplace and makes a fire erupt around him.

Sam and Maggie put the fire out, leaving the cottage barely damaged. Sam is left with badly burned hands, preventing him from painting. The second painting of Laura has been destroyed by the fire.

Roger is appalled by the painting and throws it into the fireplace. Meanwhile, Elizabeth tells Laura to stay away from David. Laura vows that she will regain her son.

David reveals to Elizabeth that Laura has visited him in the night. Meanwhile, Roger decides to encourage David to forge a closer relationship with his mother.

Laura uses her powers of persuasion to make Victoria agree to stand aside from her and David. The body from Phoenix is positively identified as that of Laura Collins.

Elizabeth's condition continues defy any logical diagnosis. Laura pays Elizabeth a visit, leaving her deeply distressed. Laura uses dark powers to place Elizabeth into a coma.

Victoria tells Frank that Elizabeth was determined to ensure that Laura would not take David away. Laura frostily vows to Victoria that she will regain David at any cost.

Psychic investigator Dr. Peter Guthrie is called to Collinwood to access Elizabeth's condition. He concludes that she in a trance caused by an extreme case of mental trauma.

Guthrie determines that Elizabeth is the victim of a malicious act by an outside influence. Roger objects to Carolyn's attempts to assume the role of head of the household.

Dr. Guthrie questions David at length. Meanwhile, Laura probes David for information on the investigation at Collinwood. Laura faces a stern interrogation from a suspicious Dr. Guthrie.

Sam continues to be troubled by recent events. Victoria and David continue to worry about David's welfare, while Burke begins to harbour suspicions about Guthrie.

An embittered Sam blames Laura for causing all the recent troubles, and confides his fears about her to Dr. Guthrie. Guthrie invites Laura to join the séance.

The séance goes ahead as planned, with Laura present. Victoria falls into a trance and speaks erratically in French, but falls unconscious just as she is about to make an important revelation.

Mrs Johnson tells Burke about recent events at Collinwood, including the séance. Laura uses magic to erase the audio recording of the séance, disposing of its evidence.

Victoria tells Burke of the recent events and their apparent relationship with Laura. As Burke is convinced that he should be cautious, Laura takes new steps to cement her relationship with David.

Laura is prevented from finishing her incantation and Guthrie recovers. Though shaken by his experience, he is now convinced that Laura possesses supernatural powers.

Guthrie tells Carolyn his surpicionsabout Laura, but decides that further investigation is needed. Guthrie asks Joe to help him to covertly exhume a coffin from the crypt.

Carolyn persuades Roger to tolerate Guthrie's investigation of Collinwood. Later, Guthrie and Joe break into the crypt at the Eagle Hill Cemetery and prepare to open Laura Radcliff's coffin.

Laura uses her supernatural powers to place Guthrie into a psychic trance. However, the ghost of Josette intervenes and leads David to the rescue.

Following his recent experiences, Guthrie is determined to hold another séance. As Guthrie drives to the séance, he loses control of his car, which crashes and is consumed by flames.

Burke makes plans to take David away from Collinwood to protect him from Laura's influence. Victoria is concerned to learn that Laura Radcliff died exactly one century ago.

Laura surprises her detractors by announcing that she has decided to leave Collinsport without David. However, secretly, she tells David that she intends to take him with her.

Laura makes a desperate final bid for David's acceptance as she is consumed by supernatural flames. Meanwhile, Elizabeth begins to recover and Victoria battles to save the life of David.

Elizabeth makes Victoria vow to keep her visit to the locked room a secret. Meanwhile, a stranger arrives at Collinwood asking to see Elizabeth.

The stranger reveals himself to be an old acquaintance of Elizabeth's, Jason McGuire. Despite her protestations, Jason insists that he will be staying at Collinwood until further notice.

Elizabeth refuses to let her brother have the key to the locked room in the basement. Roger is later disarmed to discover Jason snooping about in the basement.

Joe almost comes to blows with Willie Loomis at the Blue Whale after lewd comments are made to Maggie. Willie later joins Jason as a guest at Collinwood, in spite of Elizabeth's protestations.

Victoria finds herself the disgusted victim of Willie's lecherous advances and is especially concerned by the way in which Elizabeth seems unable to intervene.

Burke and Willie come to blows in the Blue Whale, when Willie threatens him with a knife. After the fight, Willie tells Jason he will only leave town if he is given money to do so.

Everyone at Collinwood now believes that Will will soon be leaving town. Meanwhile, Willie Loomis attempts to open the tomb of Naomi Collins, hoping to find some of her jewlery buried with her. He finds a secret room. Inside it, he finds a coffin. Thinking that there might be jewels inside it, he opens the coffin. A hand comes out of the coffin and grabs his throat.

Barnabs meets Victoria at the Old House. He tells Victoria about the history of the Old House. Roger and Carolyn meet Barnabas at the Collinwood. They are both astonished by how much he looks like the original Barnabas Collins.

Joe tells Burke and Maggie that a calf was found drained of blood. Willie, visibly shaken/shaking, shows up at the Blue Whale, Burke plans to kick him out, but Willie apologizes for his behavior the other evening. Jason questions Willie tries to give him the money to leave town, but evades the questions and tells Jason he will be staying. Jason notices blood on Willie's sleeve.

After searching for Willie, Jason leaves the cemetery, and Barnabas emerges. Barnabas asks Elizabeth if he can move into the Old House, she says she will have to think about it. Barnabas meets Jason who remarks on the resemblance to the portrait. Roger encourages Elizabeth to let Barnabas move into the Old House. Barnabas goes to the Collins Mausoleum after leaving Collinwood.

Willie starts to feel a better and decides to leave. Willie tries to tell Elizabeth something but she doesn't want to hear it. Elizabeth agrees to let Barnabas live in the Old House. Barnabas goes to the Old House and Willie joins him.

Victoria goes to the Old House and finds Willie is now working for Barnabas, Willie is eager for Victoria to leave. Barnabas commissions Sam Evans to paint his portrait; Barnabas is insistent that he work only at night. Sam paints all night as sunrise approaches Barnabas disappears.

David asks Barnabas if he can have the portrait of Josette, Barnabas tells him it belongs to the Old House, but he can still visit it. Elizabeth asks Barnabas to fire Willie, but he convinces her that Willie will cause no problems. Jason believes Willie is up to something now that he is working for Barnabas. Maggie, disturbed by the recent attacks of women in town, dreams that she is dead in a coffin.

Maggie is edgy and tired after last night, although she is weak she insists on going to work. In the coffee shop Maggie passes out. As night falls, Maggie starts to feel better. Sam works on Barnabas' portrait; later Barnabas steps out for some "air" to visit Maggie.

Maggie becomes increasing sick; Sam calls the doctor despite Maggie's protests. Victoria tells Burke that Jason is now working for the Collins cannery. Dr. Woodard tells Sam and Joe that Maggie is suffering from a loss of blood. Following sunset Maggie kicks Joe out, who was looking after her. Victoria notices that Maggie's symptoms are the same as Willie's were. Sam finds Maggie has disappeared.

Dr. Woodard examines Maggie and orders a blood transfusion. Maggie struggles as they give her the transfusion. Sam watches over Maggie as she sleeps, but he dozes off. Sam awakes as Maggie gets out of bed and leaves the house.

A violent storm rages and the power goes out. Later Barnabas shows up and tells Victoria and Carolyn the story of Josette Collins and how she jumped from Widow's hill. Victoria tells Barnabas how someone called with a tip that Maggie could be found in the cemetery. Jason tells Barnabas that Willie is up to something. Barnabas returns to the Old House screaming for Willie.

The sheriff questions Willie about the night someone called to report that Maggie was seen at Eagle Hill Cemetery. The sheriff suspects the strange things happening in Collinsport are somehow related to Willie. Jason questions Willie, he is afraid Willie is attracting too much attention; Jason warns Willie to leave town.

Victoria and Carolyn visit the Old House to see the restoration work Willie and Barnabas have done. Willie tries to get them to leave. Barnabas plans to have dinner with Josette(Maggie).

David speaks with Maggie, thinking she is Josette. Roger, Victoria and Barnabas find David and lecture him again about trespassing. Barnabas reminds Maggie that she is Josette. Barnabas provides an alibi for Willie to the sheriff. Maggie calls out for David.

Jason tries to blackmail Elizabeth into marrying him, Elizabeth refuses and rather go to jail for Paul Stoddard's murder. Elizabeth tries to tell Carolyn, however she refused to listen. Elizabeth agrees to marry Jason.

Sam goes to the Old House to work on portrait of Barnabas, however Willie tells Sam to take the portrait with him. Sam leaves behind his pipe and Maggie finds it. Later Maggie sneaks away and Sam sees her through the window of his cottage while working.

Carolyn, Roger, and Victoria plan to break into the locked room in the basement. Jason convinces Elizabeth to let them into the room; when she does they find nothing. Elizabeth announces that she is going to marry Jason.

Carolyn and Elizabeth continue to argue about plans for the impending wedding. Seemingly to spite her mother, Carolyn begins a relationship with Buzz Hackett, an uncouth hippy motorcyclist.

Maggie fails to make sense of the little girl Sarah's cryptic clues. Later, while playing outside the Old House, David encounters a dispondent Sarah, who claims to be lost.

Elizabeth engages Jason to prevent Carolyn from going ahead with her plan to marry Buzz, but his bribe is met with disinterest. Carolyn is now convinced she can prevent Elizabeth marrying.

Maggie is intrigued by the appearance of Sarah in her cell and talks with her at length. Willie later tries to convince Maggie that no one could have visited her, but Maggie finds Sarah's doll.

Jason revels in his new status as head of the household. After Roger confides his worries about Jason, Barnabas tells Willie that Jason may fall foul of his intervention if this continues.

Victoria continues to fear for Elizabeth's state of mind. Later, David shows Victoria the family Bible, containing the death dates of the whole family. Elizabeth fills in a date for her death.

Victoria intercepts Elizabeth at Widows' Hill and prevents her from jumping to her death. Burke's attempts to confront Jason with proof of his crimes have little effect.

His blackmail plan defeated, a humiliated Jason is ordered to leave town by the Sheriff. Spying on Willie and Barnabas exchanging jewels, Jason decides to break into the Old House and steal.

In an attempt to gain Victoria's affections and divert Elizabeth from her recent troubles, Barnabas decides to hold an ancestral costume party, suggesting that Victoria goes as Josette.

At the request of Victoria, a reluctant Barnabas invites Burke to the costume party, indulgently suggesting that he adopt the guise of Jeremiah Collins, his old rival.

Maggie's fragmented memories seem to lead back to the Eagle Hill Cemetery, making Julia decide that they should pay it a visit. The music box has a marked effect on Victoria's behaviour.

Barnabas finds himself unable to attack Victoria. Meanwhile, Julia continues to investigate Barnabas at the Old House and discovers him sleeping in his coffin in the basement.

Barnabas is outraged by Julia's gloating revelation that she knows his secret and is determined to kill her. However, she makes an intriguing offer that saves her life and offers him hope.

Maggie's return to Collinsport sends shockwaves through the community. Barnabas is terrified to learn that the girl's memory has returned, but Julia's intervention prevents him being exposed.

Sam continues to fear for Maggie's safety. Barnabas is shocked to learn of Maggie's visit from Sarah. Entering her room to during the night, he is confronted by a ghostly presence.

Burke's proposal leaves Victoria with a difficult decision to make. Later, Burke and Barnabas share a drink at the Blue Whale and exchange veiled threats about their pursuit of Victoria.
