And *NO * I have never heard "people" being referred to as "cool cat". "People " is plural to begin with.

A woman can be referred to as a cool cat but I have never heard *people * being referred to in that way .

I have learnt a new expression then.

Here we have a culture clash.

People, a person, whatever. Is there some reason only a woman can be a "cool cat?" Cats are both male and female.

Colloquial (American) English might be confusing to "outsiders" but especially in what amounts to "pop culture" forums like this, it's difficult to adjust to people who don't understand a person being referred to as a "cool cat" or who may think "bad-ass" can only refer to defective bowels.

Lord only knows what you think "whoop-ass" means. Or the opening of a can thereof.

Okay, I don't necessarily agree with that, but I won't argue the point. However, you didn't resort to insulting condescension.

That wasn't insulting or condescending. That was concern and a little frustration at having someone in a conversation who may not understand a lot of commonly-used idioms, lingo, slang... But the rest of us just cruise on by without noticing. Or even thinking about how confusing it could be to someone who might be trying to take everything literally.

Your interpretation. "Lord only knows..." is not automatically insulting or condescending. As I just posted, the issue is realizing what another person might think of expressions we use every day without even thinking.
