I haven't seen this show in decades. (I used to watch it religiously as a pre-teen and, for a couple of episodes, I was genuinely terrified that Batman and Robin wouldn't escape from the death traps and HAD to watch the next one to see if they could survive. I lost sleep worrying about it. It didn't take long for me to realize they would win every time.)
Now I record the early morning shows off of Heroes and Icons and have a hearty weekend morning laugh to start the day. These are silly but brilliant.
Last week, I watched Vincent Price play Egghead.
Writing the script must have consisted of first writing down every possible word the author can think of containing "ex" and then working it into the dialog and making sure to replace "ex" with "eggs". It scrambled my sensibilities for awhile, but I became hard-boiled and immune to that nonsense. It quickly went over easy.
The story, as is always the case, was ludicrous, but I liked this villain for two reasons:
1) He was smart enough to figure out on his own that Batman and Bruce Wayne are the same person. I laugh at the absurdity of the fact that almost no one else on the show can do this.
2) He actually pitches in and helps his henchmen when they fight the dynamic duo. Most of the head villains step back and watch and make their escape if the fight doesn't go well.
Okay. Three reasons. I like Vincent Price as an actor. He knew this role was goofy and had fun while also projecting a bit of menace.
