Im Jahr 1967 hatte der noch junge Claude Nobs die Idee, in seiner Heimat, dem gemächlichen Touristenort Montreux, ein kleines Jazzfestival zu veranstalten. Von Anfang an erlaubte er sich das Träumen, er reiste mit kleinem Budget nach New York zu seinem Lieblingslabel Atlantic Records und konnte die Stars gewinnen, die er selbst gerne hörte. Der Rest ist Geschichte. Sein Montreux Jazz Festival wurde über die Jahre trotz lokaler Widerstände zum Mekka der Musik, wo sich unvergessliche Auftritte von Grössen wie Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Prince und David Bowie ereigneten.
