OT: The sad state of Hollywood

I'm surprised we haven't talked about this yet on a movie database, but I compare what's going on in Hollywood right now to a car wreck I don't want to watch but can't look away from.
I mean..... it's pretty much been an open "secret" that Hollywood is rife with pedophilia, transactional sex , both wanted and coerced , sex traded for roles and opportunities,and a lot of it fell on deaf ears for years. Or people outside that sphere it didn't directly affect chose not to care. It's been amazing how many women have come out with accusations against Weinstein , all the stories about him forcing himself on these women. I'm not saying I believe every account(I don't , I think a lot of these stories are missing critical details) but I do believe he used his power to try to get sex from young actresses with a promise of stardom, and in many cases he wouldn't take no for an answer . I also think the women who agreed to sleep with him to get famous are strategically quiet about it. Now he's in sex rehab getting his libido exorcised like that's going to help anybody.
The Kevin Spacey reveal today hit me the hardest not because I didn't think he was gay ( that's about as shocking as Ricky Martin) but because he tried to bury the story of him soliciting an underage boy by coming out. That's really pissing off the LGBTQ crowd, and rightfully so. He really thought we'd be like " O you poor thing, forget the kid that almost got assaulted, how are YOU doin?" He needs to ask the Scientologists for narrative changing lessons.
Anyway, If this is just the tip of the iceberg I don't think we want to see what sordid tales lie underneath the surface. The Oscars are gonna be real awkward this year, folks.

Aside from the "wouldn't take no for an answer" part which is a separate issue, do people - mostly liberals - who believe that prostitution should be legalized and would actually "empower" women, claim that "transactional" sex for TV or movie roles is any different? It seems like they do. Or at least they want the rest of us to THINK they do. Which would seem to be a double standard.

I don't know what "liberals" has to do with it, but no it isn't any different than prostitution. That wasn't the point of the post though.
And BTW prostitution is legal in one way: obtain a film permit, film it and distribute it for mass consumption. That's perfectly legal.

I don't expect much from that preachy bunch of clowns in Hollywood. It's the closest city to Sodom and Gomorrah in this nation IMO. More so than even Las Vegas. I don't expect much from an industry that celebrates and advocates for a known and convicted child rapist in Roman Polanski, and that idolized Woody Allen. Do they make good films? Sure (some of them). But that doesn't give them a free pass to molest minors. But it's gonna come out soon enough that they were just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to pedophilia.
Anyone who would molest a child has a special place in hell waiting for them. But in Hollywood, if they make a good flick, they get a special award - called an Oscar.

You're way out of date. It's been standard libertarian fare for a long time, but that's because it was about freedom and self-determination. It's been a buzzword among liberals/progressives more recently because of female empowerment. And they get heard a lot more because there's a lot more of them. Plus why argue that prostitution should be legal just because of freedom, when you can get people a lot more cranked up by saying that being against it is sexist and oppressive?

OMG - CHEMTRAILS! I love it. I think I told you guys before that I was fortunate enough to be cast in a movie that was shot locally here in Michigan (now about 9 years ago). The director and myself had been friends going back to college days. We had a big falling out because of his absolutely insane views on many things - particularly chemtrails. The guy was NUTS about that topic. He actually would talk to strangers about it in line at the health food store (grocery stores were beneath him). More than once at intersections at red lights, he'd roll down his window and point to the sky to try and get people to see that we "are all being sprayed!!!". The day he and I stopped talking, and yeah, it was my fault, was when he once again brought the topic up on his FB page and told everyone how finally, at the health food store - 2 guys listened and agreed with him and how he was having them over to discuss the issue in-depth and how it was so great to find 2 guys who finally 'got it'. I posted in a reply for him not to be too excited - that they were probably government/FBI/CIA/NSA agents that just wanted to get close to him so they could get a look at his apartment and 'find out what you know'. He didn't see the humor in that. But seriously - this guy swore China was complicit with the UN in 'spraying' us and that it was a prelude to a ground invasion. Some people allow themselves to get consumed with these conspiracy theories.
Yeah - this had nothing to do with the OP - but I thought I'd share one of my OT posts in an OT thread. lol
