Discuss The Walking Dead

The Walkers seem to be able to avoid decay for some reason, I would think that at some point the number of Walkers would decline as the Apocalypse goes on, especially when there is a limited amount of people left.

There is a lot of that in this show; as in also gasoline having run out ages ago or degraded to a point it was useless. And also "salvaging" for food which was made before the apocalypse would be pointless by now because most of it would have spoiled. So yeah you are right, there are not enough living people left to become walkers so eventually, by now, the number would have begin to crumble. Unless they are emigrating from Mexico or Europe!

The fact that they are decomposing lends a lot of credibility to your view, Drew. It seems like they would look more and more disgusting as the series goes on!

Drew is correct in that eventually time will win and they would fall apart. Maybe a head would survive a bit longer but the legs, etc all would degrade. Unike vampires who replenish after feeding the dead do not. Most have no digestive systems! So yeah, they'd start "dying off".

What is completely ignored, is the fact that the walkers should have dried up into mummies by now.

But then again it's magic, not science, that animates them.

That would be interesting to work in somehow, maybe when the show is in it's final ep and less than no one cares, to explain all this was a spell some witch did to bring a loved one back to life!

I'm just thinking "out loud" here, so bear with me.

First, it hasn't really been that long in TWD world. I just read a thread on that. It is a very short time. Also, if everyone has the virus, then when they die, even of natural causes, they would turn if there was no one there to kill them before they turn. There has to still be people who are alone at the time of turning that that could happen to. Or maybe someone just couldn't "kill" someone they love and they are left a zombie. And, do the children born of people (everyone) with the virus, do they have it? If so, there would be a perpetual turning into zombies. Killing people who have been gravely injured, gravely ill or already dead would never end. Maybe someday, years from now there would be a low number of zombies and would eventually be eradicated. But, I don't think they are anywhere near that yet.

Sound theory. As for time it has never actually been established. We could go by Carl, though. In the beginning he was about 8 and when he died he was roughly 18 so we're talking a good decade. I believe gas degrades before that amount of time and most food stuffs are not designed to last that long either. Unless they are military bunker supplies.

belive it or not...untill s.9 its only been 2 or 3 years.

Then how did Carl age from8 to 18?

Thats hollywood for you. There have numerios studys on the timeline of the show,,,YES its 2 or 3 years.

The facts are that Walking Dead zombies defy all known science.

  1. They have only basic brain stem function, but can still see, smell, and hear.
  2. They don't breathe, but make a growling sound.
  3. They don't intake any fluids, but never dry out, and are even still filled with red blood.
  4. They don't decompose, although some get gelatinous if the special effect requires it.
  5. Bugs don't eat them, but pigs will and apparently without harm to the pig or anyone who eats the pork.
  6. Some seem to lose the muscles off their limbs, but still manage to move them.
  7. And the most amazing thing is the ability to Teleport. To suddenly appear right next to a human, in a forest covered in dry leaves.

And how this is all possible, will never be explained logically.
