There was some flirting between them in previous seasons (and implied jealousy when she started going with that other guy), and while the show never followed through on this, it certainly wouldn’t come as a shock to discover they “did it” at some point. It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect largely unsupervised adolescents in a ZA to do, especially given that there are relatively few choices of mates to go around. The way it showed her sobbing at the news of Carl’s death lends support to this theory.

Yeah, they kissed a couple of times a season or two ago. Certainly possible it went further than that. I just think we would have been clued in to something like that, unless Gimple had Carl's death planned that far in advance.

Does it matter whether it was planned seasons in advance? It’s just an interesting twist that would seem reasonably plausible and fair, and would blunt a little of the tragedy of his death.

Yeah - and just because we didn't SEE Carl and Enid have sex, doesn't mean they didn't. I mean, I'm assuming most of these people are having sex at at some point. What the hell else is there to do? The sexual urges didn't die with civilization. And other than reading and talking - there's not a whole lot of other things to do for enjoyment. So I can buy that Enid is pregnant. I mean, I can't see (and don't want to see) Darryl kicking back with a 1997 Hustler and pleasuring himself. Though something has to give out there. So yeah, I just assume they are ALL hooking up with someone. Not everything has to be onscreen.

And that would be a good story for Rick - since his own daughter is probably Shane's - and he HAS to pretty much know that. So this would be a direct lineage link for Rick.
