Cory and Newt sample Bahavia's Independence Day dessert, the nakishka. While the president is out of town, Samantha is in charge of a very important medal banquet honoring Professor Bushwick. Victor is in charge of the meal and he can not come up with a dessert. Cory gets Victor to serve Meena's nakishka's, but a mix up in the recipe spells disaster. Meanwhile, Sophie is teased about not being able to ride a bike without training wheels, and tries to get her dad to come home and teach her how.

Cory manages to get Vince Valentine, a music executive, to come to the Liberry to watch DC3. Thinking they need to sound as good as they can, Cory decides to hold auditions for a keyboard player. At the end of the auditions, only Stickler is good enough to join the band, which everyone detests at first. After they let him join, he gives them bracelets as a thank you. However, Cory's is a special bracelet that sucks out all of his rhythm! Since Cory can no longer play the drums, Meena and Newt ask him not to go to the performance so they have a chance of getting a record deal. It turns out that this is all a plan by Stickler, for him to become famous instead of Cory!

Cory's great aunt passes away, and he receives some of her money for inheritance. She insisted he uses it for college, which Victor agrees to, and puts the money away. At school, Cory, Meena, and Candy discover that Newt has a talent for braiding hair, which gives Cory the idea to open a braiding shop with his money. He eventually convinces Newt to go ahead with the plan, until rival Mr. Michelle threatens to shut them down so he can reclaim his business. They then decide to have a "braid-off" to see who is better, Mr. Michelle or Newt. Meanwhile, Sophie and Tanisha want to dress like their idol Tiffany Starr for Haley's birthday party., but their parents won't let them. They then have Tanisha's sister buy them some clothes and head to the party.

After breaking up with Craig, Meena writes an angry song and DC3 gets a chance for their song to be in a movie, but Meena can't get angry enough to finish writing the song. Sophie, Tanisha and Haley stay up late to watch a movie instead of doing their book report.
