I have watched every season of this show and it never disappoints. So many French and Scandinavian police shows knock British efforts into a cocked hat.

Season 8 - not as good as the rest I have to say - mainly because it takes it's time with the personal relationship between Laure and Gilou. Tin Tin returned though - which was welcome. Josephine is as big a villainess as ever - she has absolutely no scruples whatsoever. This time she is defending a young woman accused of filming men in compromising situations and blackmailing them - one of these men then committed suicide. This was a HUGE disappointment for me as the usual PC nonsense raised its ugly head once again and used the ploy of the accused being raped as a teenager to excuse all her actions as an adult - of course she was acquitted amidst joy and celebration. I doubt his widow felt the same way after being attacked in court by the redoubtable Josephine. What utter nonsense - if you have suffered any trauma in your youth then you can go on to commit any crime you like and it will be excused. This is not a doctrine I have ever or will ever subscribe to - it positively encourages people to break the law and is an insult to those who have suffered trauma and not gone on to a life of crime.

Loved this series. I have seen it through season 6 (waiting for MHZ to acquire the newer ones). It & many other great international series are shown on MHZ, which broadcasts on one of my local PBS stations.

I really like season 7 that just finished in the UK. I think the old character were given good arcs, Ali was a good addition, and Beckriche fleshed out a bit. Camera work was also improved, without being needlessly funky. The only season that disappointed me was 'the Butcher of...'(season 3 I think) because it was way over the top and unrealistic.

It is only fiction. I'm in that line of work and you dont really get that severe a change based on historic circumstances in real life. The woman had spent 6 months in jail for the offence, so it wasn't like she got off Scot Free. The only person celebrating was also a horrible human being with no moral compass!

I have just read a news report of a woman who killed her 11 and 13 year old sons in the most horrible manner and had plans for killing her other four children. As usual her "childhood trauma" was produced as her defence. Maybe this sickening crime influenced me but we are seeing more and more of it, it is the go-to excuse for criminals these days. In any event - I wish this series would punish Josephine who is really beyond the pale with her total lack of scruples and ethics - how anyone could like her - let alone love her is beyond me. I also wish that they would stop using cops taking down cops who are only trying to do their jobs as a regular plotline. I didn't like the ending either - it seemed like Oh Well - Gilou is in prison so I'll actually visit my six month old daughter now. You were left with the feeling that had they got away with it she wouldn't have bothered.

Josephine was imprisoned, so she takes some knocks. I agree a bit on the Gilou / Laure ending, but the point was for Gilou to make a sacrifice to give Laure a chance to heal, rather than crack up completely - and I think the ending was meant to suggest that she might start to mentally turn a corner. If it was a film the final scene with Laure would have been better if it had shown some time having elapsed, but they cant really do that with season 8 round the corner.
