Discuss Reacher

Critics of Tom Cruise will be glad to know that this time Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) looks like the character in the book: "extremely tall (he’s 6ft, 5in), and extremely broad, long-armed and long-legged".

So anyone seeing him will be scared of Hulk Jack, who by the way loves animals.

Don't make him angry, you won't like him when he is angry. Yes, he will turn green, and black, and brown.

And of course he is a great lover.

Don’t listen to that guy. It’s good, watch it if you can get Prime.

I watched the beginning and already I am finding problems with it. They can't arrest someone with no motive and no priors just because he was seen walking down the highway near where a crime took place. Then they handcuffed him in the front which is never done especially not with a violent criminal. Then Reacher was able to come to all kinds of conclusions based on very little information which is a stretch.

That's where I stopped watching. I came here wondering if it's worth continuing because I'm still not convinced.

Sounds like you’d be more interested in a true crime police procedural….maybe a reality copy show 🤷‍♀️

What about "Probable Cause"?

(LawInfo.com): "The problem with probable cause is simply that the idea is open to interpretation. In general, if an officer can show they had a “reasonable” belief that someone committed a crime, the court will often determine that the officer had probable cause. What qualifies as a reasonable belief, however, will vary from case to case."

If I were a law enforcement officer and someone was seen in an area where a murder was committed, I'd take that person into custody...and anyone else who happened by...and then sort out the paperwork later.

I've watched it. Can't say it knocked my boots off.

But, must say it had enough twists and turns to keep we wanting to know how it all was going to piece together. Plus, it had plenty of action...always a good thing. And plenty of "red herrings": which threw me off the scent BIG TIME, and had me guessing everyone and their mama was involved. I was wrong. Believe it or not--I like it when I'm wrong...means someone did something right.

Anyway...

I think my only real complaint is that the actor is a little too stoic in the role. He has one facial expression: "Frozen Stare".

Even so...

I heard there will be a S2...I'll be there.

LET IT BE SAID: Tom Cruise in the role face_vomiting. Friends tried...but, I just couldn't bring myself to stoop that low wink .

I've liked Alan Ritchson since he was Aquaman and enjoyed this series. It was fun to watch him in action. Another possible actor for the role in the movies was Dwayne Johnson. He lost to Tom Cruise.

Johnson wouldn't have been my choice either. There is just too-much-of-him all over the place. It's like he is working 24/7 everywhere at once. BUT!? Johnson losing out to Cruise. "End Times".

Not really a stretch. Some of us have this “gift”. It’s just that normally you see a group spit-balling--bouncing ideas of each other. Ever notice how quickly some people can solve a riddle--no matter how complicated...while others can eventually...and some NEVER.

Anyway, why give Reacher grief over this. No one ever thumbsdown_tone1 Sherlock Holmes, and he is known for coming up with insights/answers/solutions with a whole lot less to go on than Reacher. At least Reacher is channeling his former career; so in addition to his “gift” he also has training/skill/experience on his side.

Johnson and many other actors just didn't look like the character in the books. grin

It's interesting that in 2012 the author of the Jack Reacher novels, Lee Child, when asked about casting Cruise by the Wall Street Journal (December 14, 2012):

As Child explained wryly during a recent book tour stop in Chicago, the search for an actor to play Reacher took place over a number of years. Hundreds of names were "bandied about," as he put it: Liam Neeson? Daniel Craig? Hugh Jackman? Gerard Butler? Russell Crowe? Josh Brolin? Jason Statham? How about a black Reacher, maybe Will Smith or Denzel Washington?

"It was completely impossible to find a physical facsimile of Jack Reacher in Hollywood," Child said. "There are none—not even remotely close. The people you think are 6-feet-five and 250 pounds are not. Most of them are at least seven or eight inches shorter than the fictional Reacher. It got to the point where people were saying, 'What about this guy who’s nine inches shorter than Reacher? He’s better than this other guy who’s nine and a half inches shorter than Reacher.' "

Did Alan Ritchson forget to audition? wink

What's 'completely impossible' is for anyone to give any credence to that steaming pile of ‘hokum’.

The author Lee Child based Jack Reacher's physicality - particularly his height - on himself. Of course, the muscles are extra for Reacher. wink

It seems like in 2012 he couldn't find an actor that looked like the character from his novels. Fortunately now he has.

Here you can see him - like Stan Lee - in a surprise cameo:

Funny, when I originally saw this, that guy walking by seemed so random and unnecessary that I thought somebody?; but I didn't think cameo.

Now, I'm thinking I like everyone in that town better than I like Child.

I see that the OP hasn't reappeared on the Board to comment on posters comments...hope they haven't met with foul play.

I say this because...

Seems strange to ask direct questions, and then give no indication whatsoever that you’ve eyes how-the-fat-was-chewed in response to those questions.

Not so strange after all. Got curious; so, checked the OP's profile. Was astonished to see that they had deleted their account. Now, we'll never know.

Well, at least, there was no garbage truck involved in the OP's none-return to the Thread. pray
