Le grand-père de Setsu, qui lui avait tout appris du shamisen, lui demande à sa mort de cesser d’en jouer, car selon lui, malgré son don pour l’instrument, le son qu’il en tire est mauvais. Déboussolé, le jeune homme quitte Aomori pour Tokyo, afin de trouver un sens à sa vie. Là, il rencontre Yuna qui veut devenir actrice et Taketo, son petit ami, profiteur et infidèle.

La tornade Umeko ne s’est pas contentée d’enlever Setsu manu militari, elle l’a aussi inscrit au lycée ! Il semblerait pourtant qu’elle a derrière la tête un tout autre projet que celui d’en faire un étudiant modèle…

Dans son nouveau lycée, Setsu a la surprise d’entendre un morceau qui se trouve avoir beaucoup d’importance non seulement pour lui, mais aussi pour une de ses camarades. Cette dernière lui demande de le jouer devant sa grand-mère, mais Setsu refuse, ne s’en sentant pas le talent.

Setsu s’est engagé à jouer le fameux impromptu, dont la virtuosité et le tempo très rapide le tétanisent. Son frère lui donne alors un excellent conseil, celui de s’approprier la mélodie sans chercher à imiter son grand-père. Cette version rendra-t-elle ses souvenirs à la grand-mère de Shuri ?

Apparemment, la mère de Setsu a tout fait pour le piéger en vue du concours de shamisen qu’elle organise, ce qui commence par passablement l’agacer. Le club du lycéen, lui, prend doucement son envol. Très doucement, même, en raison d’un certain mauvais vouloir de la part de Setsu, peu motivé au départ, et dont la patience n’est pas la qualité principale.

En vue du championnat de shamisen, le club est parti en stage d’été à Aomori. Setsu, toujours en quête du son de son grand-père, ne fait guère attention aux autres et n’est d’aucune aide à la pauvre Shuri, qui ne parvient pas à suivre…

Le groupe hétéroclite mené par Setsu se présente au championnat lycéen de shamisen organisé par Umeko, la mère du jeune homme. Alors que ses quatre comparses, pris de trac, aimeraient bien répéter une dernière fois, Setsu s’éclipse.

As the images that arise in their hearts come together, their sounds come together too. Where will their performance take them?

The Tsugaru Shamisen Appreciation Club has placed 3rd in the Matsugorou Cup. Next, the individual competition finally begins. However, someone unexpected has come to the venue—Kamiki Ryuugen. He reveals to Umeko that he wants Setsu to inherit the Kamiki School from him because...

Kaji has been struck by a misfortunate accident—a string snapped in the middle of his performance. Seeing him continue on two strings to give an amazing performance stirs Setsu's heart.
