Discuss Casualty

Extra Details: Hi there, I am looking for some advice surrounding the recent series of Casualty. They have recently stopped referring to their series as "series 36, series 37" and have instead allocated titles to each mini-series. This also means that each series has an episode count of 10-12 instead of the usual 30-40 episodes. However, I am unable to go back through the series and sort each episodes into their respective mini-series. Any aid would be appreciated.

I believe TMDB rules are that episodes should match how the broadcaster listed the episodes at the time they aired. So TMDB would not change their data if the BBC have changed theirs after the episodes have aired.

It looks like someone tried to change the TMDB data, someone else attempted to change it back and now we have a mix of the old correct data and the new incorrect data.

For example, this internet archive link shows the episode "Too Young, Too Soon" was originally part of Season 37, but TMDB currently lists it as Season 38 Episode 5. The same link confirms the following episode (titled "Aftermath") was the start of Season 38.

I believe this will require a moderator to intervene, fix the seasons then lock them to prevent people changing the data from its original listing on the BBC website.

Having looked at TMDB's data a bit further, it simply needs the first 5 episodes of Season 38 deleted (these are duplicates of the end of Season 37).

The season titles for Seasons 37 and 38 should also be removed as these were not listed like that by the BBC at the time of airing and they currently span multiple seasons of the correct TMDB data due to the BBC changes.

I still believe locking those seasons would also be a good idea.

I've removed the incorrect season titles and corrected the episode numbers in Season 38.

All that's required now is for a Moderator to delete the blank Episodes 95-99 in Season 38.

Official source for my changes is referenced in my previous messages.

Are you the mod from TheTVDB? The decision how to list these episodes on both major sites whence apis get their data shouldn't be down to one person!

The decision is not down to me or any one person. Both TVDB and TMDB have their own sets of rules on how things should be listed. All of my edits are made in accordance with the relevant rules on each site. Both sites rules state that seasons and episodes should be listed in the way that they were listed by the original broadcaster at the time of airing.

Ok great, there are rules. But then there's the matter of how the rules are interpreted and applied.

Seeing how the BBC is currently presenting episodes of Casualty, we could reach several conclusions. Sure, it could be the case that year-long series no longer exist, or it could be that the numbered year-long series still exist 'over' the arcs/runs (e.g. claim that Charlie's departure storyline will run 'across' a few arcs). That public sources saying the BBC has numbers for this series have, yes, gone away. But they did number the previous year, so I honestly think it's too early to know whether series have been abolished. I just think it's likely that in a year or something, we find out they still have numbered series, and find ourselves having to switch everything back, ruining users' data in the process.

Sure, BBC could change things in future, but we don't know that. We can therefore only work with the information we do have.

As per this screenshot from the BBC website taken prior to the airing of the episode "Tinderbox", the episode was part of a "New Series". As per TMDB rules, it should therefore be listed as a new season.
