Item: Voltron: Defender of the Universe

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: This show is missing season 3 and unable to add the information. Since i actually have the episodes, i know they exist. 20 of them. I have checked they have not been entered under another voltron entry.

I also think there is something not right with the list of episodes on tmdb for this show. I believe season 01 is correct but season 02 is wrong and contains a list from the spin off show. If you look at the episodes entered they are a copy of the list from Vehicle Force Voltron https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/95477-vehicle-force-voltron.

I suspect when the list was initially create it was copied from IMDB which lists the show as three seasons (including the spin off). From what I can tell based on the aired order is that The Defender of the Universe has two parts, Lion Force parts 1 (52 episodes) & 2 (20 episodes). Then the show Vehicle Force Voltron has (52 episodes).

My recommendation would be that season 02 for this show be removed and re-created with the 20 episodes. The list from S03 from https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086824/episodes?ref_=tt_ep_epl or the list from S02 https://www.thetvdb.com/series/voltron-defender-of-the-universe/seasons/official/2 be used as a template.

Yup, the episodes were vandalized. I don't have much extra time right now, but I'll try to fix them later.

Thanks for confirming our assessment @banana_girl

I'm happy to help out but there is only so much I can do with my access level but I will suggest that 1) I could edit S02E01 -> S02E20 both title and summaries to match the correct aired order and then confirm when this is complete and then 2) you could check my edits, delete S02E21 -> S02E52 inclusive and lock the titles, summaries and addition of episodes.

If this is an okay plan please let me know and I'll go ahead and do step 1 above.

That would be great, dokuro. cat

@banana_girl I have updated the titles, summaries and first air date for episodes S02E01 -> S02E20 inclusive as agreed above. I have also added external ids for IMDB and TVDB for each episode. If you agree with my edits then please locks these and delete the ones from S02E21 -> S02E52. I'll also see if I can find some high quality thumbnails and add them if I find any. Thanks.

Done! Thanks again, dokuro.

It's a lot more complicated than the discussion above. When Voltron was originally broadcast, there was not a "spin-off show". The lion and vehicle episodes were interspersed as a single series, with a few vehicle episodes in season 1 and then mostly vehicle episodes in season 2. The "third season" (consisting of new lion team footage not used in Japan) was distributed as a second show, "The New Adventures of Voltron."

Starting with the DVD releases, it was decided to group the Lion and Vehicle episodes together in separate sets, and to include The New Adventures in the main Lion set. Prior to this, a separate "Vehicle Force" series did not exist, and it was all "Voltron: Defender of the Universe." Most of the episode lists available today are derived from how the DVD sets are structured. However, it's easy enough to figure out the original broadcast form by checking the original airdates of the episodes. Since both formats are official, neither is wrong, and this seems like a pretty big headache.

I think the best solution would be to have separate series listings, effectively leaving the broadcast show intact and treating the Lion-only and Vehicle-only sets as new shows, created when the DVD sets released in the newer format.

EDIT: I'm taking another look at the various DVD releases, and I think I need to revise my position. All of the DVDs, whether they have lion episodes or vehicle episodes, are branded as "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" with the team name on them as secondary branding. There's even a newer boxed set with both teams, presenting them as "The Complete Original Series". I have to conclude that there is only the original series as broadcast, and that the DVD sets merely separate the episodes out for viewing and/or marketing convenience.
