讨论 Tiger King

Caught wind here on TMDB that there was a "new ep" added to the series. After watching it I'm not sure how I feel about all this. Is the show self-aware enough to recognize the exploitation of the "characters"--which are real people--they themselves are propagating? I, like you, watched the series in a state of disbelief and intrigue. Fair enough. Afterwards, hearing some more details reported almost like "news" has added to my understanding of the reality that was going on. But this episode in particular, with it's wink-wink, nod-nod attitude toward the people they filmed is cringey. Even at the end the host says "And this proves that I'll do anything for money." I feel like I too, as the viewer, need to go take a shower and repent of my sin of participation. It's...just...gross. Anyone else getting this vibe?

Also, I'm guessing the show sent out all those AirPods and cameras/phones? #productplacement

Also, didn't David Spade already cover this ground...and do it better? #lightsout

I haven't seen the extra episode, can you maybe summarize it for us? Also, what are you referring to with the David Spade comment? Thanks!

The extra episode is essentially a "made from home with iPhones" interview hour with all the "characters" from the series. The host, who is apparently a celebrity personality, basically laughs along as he asks the folks he's interviewing to laugh at themselves. It's cringy tv. As to David Spade, he has a series called "Lights Out with David Spade" that basically did the exact same thing, from his own "home studio" during the virus outbreak. For me, it felt more forgivable for Spade as he is pretty much snarky with everyone...it's his shtick. So he does the wink/nod thing with the folks from the show, but still seems to do it more 'with' them that 'at' them.

Basically, the "follow up" episode of Tiger King was in no way necessary, as most of the media were already doing it in real time due to the series' success.

The extra episode is hosted by Joel McHale (from Community) and much like his "persona" on The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale _his schtick is self aware sarcasm. In the episode he speaks with each of the key characters from _Tiger King (apart from Joe) and asks the about their thoughts on how they were portrayed on the show, and what they are up to now that the series has aired. It's not high quality content as its all done over video chat, but it did give a little insight into life after the show. It's not essential viewing though IMO.
