The Movie Database Support

 Ongoing Maintenance

Dear TMDb Community,

In the next few months, you might notice some changes on our site. My primary goal is, and always has been, to build the best media database on the internet and in order for me to stay true to that goal, we will be making these changes to enable TMDb to be more robust and reliable than before.

As you might recall from my 2019 recap, I have some pretty amazing plans for 2020 so stay tuned for some really fantastic launches this year!

I do not understand how popularity mechanism works. For example when I fetch popular persons I see that Thai actor Thassapak Hsu is on top . When I see he has the popularity of 135 while Brad Pitt is only 28 and I said wow, How can that happen ? what is the logic behind this ? And I also see average popularity for directors are around 10, are they using same range ?

And I also noticed most person has popularity of 0.6, is that minimal/default value of the popularity ?

And another question, there is voted_count, is that count for popularity index ?

I'm not familiar with the in and outs of the popularity value, Travis should be able to help with that, but the basics are here. You can see why the one for people can can weird pretty fast.
