The Movie Database Support

I started this project back in February of last year(!) and was pulled off of it for over half of 2019, so after an entirely too long dev cycle, I am pretty stoked to let you guys know about this.

If I was to zero in on what makes v5 so much better than v4, it's that it's all about density and consistency. I spent a lot of time making things consistent across all media types and pages. Everything finally feels like it's a lot more at home and where it belongs. This is also a design that can scale with some of the new data we plan to start incorporating over the next few years.

While it is mostly feature complete, I am aware of a few lingering issues. They are as follows:

  • New homepage isn’t done yet
  • Collections cannot be edited, not 100% there design wise yet
  • Account pages have some display and functionality issues
  • Content pages (like the API docs, etc...) haven't been updated yet
  • Lists need some love, they haven't been updated yet
  • The "watch now" bar on Mobile is going to get tweaked, but it is available

If you see something that is clearly wrong, by all means feel free to mention it below. I need more eyes on this, so just use it as you see fit and I'll be spending the next few weeks wrapping everything up.

My goal is to have this launched in production sometime in the next few weeks.

Thanks as always!

Update on March 27: v5 is now live on production!! This has been the longest and hardest thing I have ever pulled off in the past 11 years building TMDb. Of course there's still work to be done, and we're not stopping here but I'm taking a breather for the weekend. Hope everyone is staying safe out there, feel free to reply to this thread with issues if they crop up. Thanks as always. pray_tone2

when adding the duration of a movie or tv show, it should appear in all languages, and this is not the case. because if you add in one language in another I can put a different duration, but the movie is the same ....

Love the new design thnx @travisbell .

*I'm trying to add English Translation for this collection but every time I try I get this error:( "Oops!—We've run into a snag! There was a problem trying to load this page. If you would like to share what happened, please let us know on the forums."

AND PLEASE add Turkish content rating:)

*TV: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_content_rating_system#Turkey

*Movie: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_picture_content_rating_system#Turkey

Ratings: I mean the movie rating via country. I see it's more prominent at the top of the films page. If there is no rating for the US (where I am) it defaults to a rating from another country. Could we just have it blank if there is no rating in the US (or whatever country you're viewing from).

This is a tricky one, often having some data is better than no data. That's a general philosophy you can see at play in many aspects of the website no days. I'm not sure.

I also mentioned the possibility of having a bot remove US ratings for all movies made in the US before 1968 since movies weren't rated until '68

Once we have a system to support adding previous generation certifications, this will get looked but not until then.

It's more of a frustration on my part. For example The Apartment 1960 was never rated. But it has adult situations. So someone just made it PG. But has it ever been rated PG? Drives me nuts.

@travisbell
1-The search now requires two extra click to get it on and type. I'm talking when you already are navigating into the site, not the main page. This is annoying when you are working in the site or editing several movies.

2-Once the image is uploaded, in the past you can type "e" for example and "english" shows.... Now it shows many other option languages that not start with "e" (seems a bug)

Thanks.

What are you talking about?

My message goes to Travis and has nothing to do with other post.

It is just a report/detail about the new site only. Nothing more.

Be cool.

I'm talking about this, for example, on the 1st page of this topic.

Getting used to the blue, but missing the separate search bar. A search takes an extra press!

Re: blue, good stuff. I've been using v5 for so long now that when I got back to the old site, it feels old and cramped and unorganized.

Re: extra press, it actually doesn't! It was one click before (right on the bar) and it's still one click. Clicking the search icon focuses the search bar, so it's one click in both sites. Pro tip: when you're on a computer, you can tap the letter s and it will auto focus the search bar as well. I often find it easier to use the keyboard, than move the mouse around.

And about this, on the top of page 6:

Poster art: In the past you could tag English by simply hitting E. Now you have to type ENG. Could you go back to the old way, or have English as the first selection since it might be the most popular.

This is a change going from a "starts with" filter, to a "contains" filter in the dropdown. The "starts with" was limited to people who might not have got the few characters right, whereas now, you can mash in parts of the language (especially useful when you're not 100% sure how it's added/entered) to search through the list in a more fuzzy way.

I'm cool. To help you, I'm only pointing to the answers Travis has already given to your questions.

Thank you very much, I really never saw that answers.

Really odd the new filter, by the way.

Thanks again.

I don't have a logged in state to show just yet, but it will be getting looked at when I get a chance to run through phase 2 of the new homepage (filter items you've seen, for example.)

For those asking about adding certifications, I'll find my way to this thread in the near future.

No its not. You forget copy & paste. If its visible directly you do not need to make it visible first. You can directly hold down (touch devices) or right click (mouse) to paste something into the search field. Now, its an extra step :(

Hi, in the absence of a reply from anyone "official", do you mean you're trying to get to https://v5.themoviedb.org/ ?

If so, it's no longer active as the trial has been found worthy and the main site has switched to the "v5" layout etc.

Hi @AucT, I am not able to reproduce this. I've tried Chrome on Android and iOS. thinking

As @M.LeMarchand, mentioned, if you're trying to access v5.themoviedb.org, indeed it's not live anymore. v5 is live, and the site you're using right now.
