We started blocking homepage recently. At least for movies!

Unfortunately the existing ones weren't deleten. Maybe Travis can fix that.

I think just letting people know it is no longer updated is fine. Can give interesting data to play with.

One of the key issues with film websites, is the fact that although they have them initially, they often kill them off once the Cinema/DVD release phases have passed. They are very transient things.

It's true, homepages can be very transient.

The current blacklist is: https://gist.github.com/travisbell/820913d59c0cdc52cbceb8ff320fe017

Obviously we can't block everything, but we've tried to hit the big ones (imdb.com, t.co, bit.ly, etc...) If there's some more that are somewhat common, we can definitely get them added. We also use this list as our spam block, so that's why you'll see some random ones added.

Just noting that from the ones Adi posted, we shouldn't block ameblo, wordpress, and tumblr. They are used as personal blogs/websites. Just not always with a domain (especially not ameblo). Definitely think they're worth keeping! (as long as tumblr isn't added to social media links at least)

Do you run wildcard before things like Wikipedia? So that you catch en.wikipedia from ru.wikipedia?

You should probably add Google on there. e.g. to stop general Google links and Google+ profiles. If you aren't accepting facebook, then Google+ should be out too.

YouTube and Vimeo? Fine for trailers, not so much for people homepages.

tumblr would be another good one to add.

After that, it is things like wordpress, livedoor.jp, weibo, ameblo.jp

I think all of those are worthy contenders.

My issue with blog sites, is that although on occasions, they are the site of the person, they often seems to be fan sites etc.

If Tumblr is your primary website as an actor, that is kinda depressing. Adding it the fields along with the existing Twitter, Facebook etc. seems reasonable. Obviously, you don't want too many there, but it is well established. Argument against, is that with only 29 entries so far, is it worth it?

That said, I don't feel particularly strong on the blog/tumblr stuff. Either way is fine.

workbooklive.com and brandxstunts.org actually seem like good and legit ones.

lol. There are 3 links to suicidegirls.com!

Point of note:

The list of domains comes from where a URL ends up, rather than the URL itself. So hugedomains.com comes in at No. 6 because some expired domains end up there.

That said, when I make comments about sites like wordpress, I do check to make sure such URLs appear in original list of URLs added by users.

Subdomains should get caught if the domain is on the list but TLD's have to be added individually. That's why wikipedia.de and wikipedia.com are added separately.

Agreed, added.

We use the same blacklist for all objects and in some cases, these probably could be valid for either movies or TV (I recently added a show on Vimeo for example) so I'll have to leave them off for now.
